Sealer or varnish for bases with static grass?

I have a few miniatures that need varnishing. The bases are flocked with static grass which also needs fixing in place to stop it shedding.

What is the difference between a matt spray varnish and a matt spray sealer? I've seen sealer used to fix static grass to terrain tiles but I'm not sure whether it would also double as a varnish for the miniature. Conversely, I don't know what spraying a miniature with varnish would do to the static grass.

To finish a base and seal it apply either by spray bottle or with an airbrush a fine misting of thinned down acrylic medium (10 parts water, 1 part medium, one drop flow release). Repeat if needed. This kills remaining lustre and stops shedding. Some acrylic varnishes are actually matte medium, so yes, this could also be used to seal your miniature, but may be too thin for proper protection.

You can spray varnish on static grass, but you need to be careful to not overdo it, as it may form droplets.

I give the models a final coat of matt spray varnish after bashing, using static grass. Works a treat, and I haven't noticed it do anything odd to the grass.
