Icthelion - Lord of the Deep
« on: March 07, 2017, 02:48:24 PM »
Hi all,

Got done recently with another model for DeepWars, the mighty Icthelion - Lord of the Deep. This one was fairly large, about 80mm long, set on a 50mm base, with a lot of scales. Luckily the scales are well defined and it made it easy to paint them with ink glazes. This one was almost entirely done in inks and did not have the usual light base coat applied before applying the inks. The scales were washed with Turquoise ink, then shaded with a wash of Dioxazene Purple ink to add the shadows. White was used for the highlights more than my usual Reaper Golden Highlight.

Insanely good yet again. The way the different eye-popping yet subtle colour shades are worked into the main model, contrasting with the ultra-realistic barnacles, rocks and algae on the base ... just unbelieveably good.

Beautiful colors, esp. those blues.  A truly striking figure - very well done!

Really well done! Did you use paint only on the base? The algae almost looks like really fine static grass.

Thanks for all the comments!

The base is actually just a lot of different washes and glazes and drybrushing of whites and yellows. The base just has a lot of texture that makes it look realistic, but I did not actually do all that much to it. The model was sculpted in 3D and the artists made the base have some good roughness and lots of nice little details.

The miniature is impressive, AND BEAUTIFULLY painted & based...his Little Associate (a BEAUTY as well) looks a bit on the insecure side. VERY WELL DONE!

Beautiful work, the way you've made those scales pop is just fantastic!
