6mm Arthurian/ Romano-British
« on: 23 March 2017, 07:46:41 PM »
I would like to try this period in 6mm. I want to use the
rule set Glutter of Ravens. So I am looking for Britains, Saxons,
Welch, Pict and Irish. Do any companies make these in 6mm?
If not what would you suggest I use? Thanks.

Baccus mini's is the place to go IMO.

Their late romans and the various opposing forces should allow you to do what you need. You can even use some of the early medieval codes as well and give plenty of variety. At this scale many of the forces you name come under the term celts. Here is the link to their site: https://www.baccus6mm.com/catalogue/TheRomans/ should be good for the link.

I have done various 'dark age forces' using those. You can see them on my blog - I have done many posts on the different forces/units but here is are a couple of example pictures: https://mellis1644.wordpress.com/2012/12/31/romanromano-british-cavalry-and-command/

Thanks Mellis,

That is what I was thinking. What packs of the Romans would you suggest for the Romano-British?

Most of the late romans work very well for 4th-5th cent Romano-British. Thats what they were after all. There were no Cataphracts in Britain but the heavy Cav likely will work for Arthur (with a general from that pack). The other figs in the range should cover the 'romanized troops'. If you see my blog I did various shield patterns and less organized lines for the poorer quality troops.

The celts range can work for the Welsh as they likely continued using the older traditional Celt shaped shields longer than most... it's a guess but it works.

The Goth range likely works for early Saxons at this scale.

For the Picts and Irish I used a mixture of lines. Neither had a large number of big shields and dominant use of sheildwalls to my knowledge, so packs like the Spanish Caetratii and the various charging ones work well for them. Cav with smaller shields work as well and the celts have chariots if you wan  few for the picts.

I use Baccus Numidian skirmishers as Irish Kern. They do the trick well.
