The Odyssey collection

The Odyssey is a rather nice range of incredibly detailed models from JoeK. This first model is the argonaut which I'm painting for Joe's competition.

Stunning paintwork!! :o :o :o

I'm trying to learn from the master.......so I take it you airbrush on the basic blues and whites, then shade down to black and highlight up to pure white to get the reflections?

Again.....wow!

That was the idea. The airbrushing didn't work out too well so served more as guide for the light placement and most of the work was done with glazing.

Have you seen the crystal brush winner? Makes my stuff look like a child's finger painting :'(

Well, I can't give up the day job.

More progress on the argonaut.

I just went and had a look at what you were talking about. Don't shoot yourself down! Have you tried to enter? I will admit, that Wizard of Oz entry is amazing and the Nagash diorama has a brilliant narrative to it!

Is the Argonaut going to be fully NMM? What's happening with the black areas and the sword?

Not sure. The deadline for the competition is the end of the month so I may end up painting the rest black and basing with texture paint and grass flock.

I'm not quite sure of the background on this range, but if the argonauts are supposed to spacefarers, what about doing a simple set of metal stairs leading up to where the big chap stands, with a metallic sci fi version of a Greek column behind him to the back fight-hand corner? Maybe paint them NMM gold/brass to go against the NMM silver of the Argonaut?

My basing skills aren't the best so I played safe and went with a simple design.
