I can't help but wonder if some further bright silver highlights might help the, er, robot stand out better and also look more, er, like his TV-show inspired counterpart?

So, here are some Gates of Antares work in progress.


C3M4 drone with strike trooper for scale.

The "glow" needs some more blending and I have just spotted the scanner on the front.

The Ghar figures in the starter set are nice, just impractical, a tripod is a nice stable platform but making them move is a  challenge​. HG Wells had the Martians move like a milking stool, by rotating at the waist.

So I decided to paint up the twenty figures as two opposing forces of ten.


One force is sprayed with Citadel Mournfang brown, the other PSC Field grey.

I have another box to build as command units.

So the warning on the reply page says no movement on this thread for 120 days...

I bought the Warlord Games Freeborn Donation squad, sixteen limited multipart plastic figures.

The squad leaders have a pistol option, but it is limited by the fixed arms on the torsos (designed to have the Mag Gun fitted).


Very limited pose options (there is a plasma pistol and a grenade hand option).

For the next one I cut the right arm off at the elbow and repositioned it.

The right arm will need some greenstuff to tidy it up (the torso joins will also benefit from some filling).

The PDF Freeborn Garrison list has a Garrison commander option, same load out as a normal squad leader and with two body guards armed with Plasma Carbines (on the Domari sprue).


This has had both arms separated at the elbows and reposed.

So from the sixteen figures I have built three command dice worth of figures:
