N. African Middle East buldings in 3 D help/collaboration
« on: April 08, 2017, 11:57:31 PM »
Hello
i saw this interesting kickstarter project..
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/950201293/arabic-north-african-tabletop-terrain-get-printabl

i've no knowledge at all on 3 D..and of course i do not have access to a 3D printer..maybe i could buy the files..but what to do with them..i don't think that getting them to a commercial 3 D shop.if any here in Rome..will help in therms of price and, above all, explain how to do the job
but i suppose it could be a great way to:
- save money
- have plentiful options  and flexibility for wargames tables (printing only walls, parts ecc..)..not forgetting that also an Arab/FFL Fort could be made with this project
- ligthweight
my question are:
- could somebody explain me what is possible to do with that project in therm of practicity and above all the cost of an average size element (house)?
-..would somebody , possibly expert on the matter or happy owner of a 3D printer..and sharing a common interest for this subject (i play in 28mm)..collaborate with me...sharing the cost..or be paid for making the job
thanks

Cool looking project, but without having access to your own 3d printer I do not think it would be very practical to simply buy the STL files.

If you used these STL files to have them made through a 3d printing service, such as Shapeways, I'm guessing one building would cost at least $50 and maybe even twice that - for 28mm.

If I was going to print these pieces as a personal project, the material for one building would probably cost under $20.

A good home filament printer, such as an Ultimaker 2, would probably work fairly well. Printing this type of pieces on an SLA, such as a Form 2, might be tricky but it would look better.

Honestly, as cool as this project looks, I personally feel like there are better options for this sort of terrain.  ;)

thanks for your answer...i understand that for items that could be find elsewhere ready made..(in resin or laser cut wood) ) ...make our own 3D is still not the cheapest solution if you have alternative

Funny, found this thread via my Kickstarter project.

Yes of course, a backing on such a project is only worth, if you own a 3d printer. Use a service will make the buildings to expensive.

Some of you may know the German sweetwater-forum. Here I introduced a cheap 3D printer DIY set I paid 154 Euro for. Try to use the google translator. But the pictures will show, what such a cheap printer is able to do. And maybe, if you do not have fun to build a printer yourself, for more bucks you buy a plug and play printer.

The printer is the ANET 8. This is available via eBay here in Germany without sending cost and duty. The price is a little bit higher that I paid 2 weeks before ....
