Malifaux scenery - what works for you?
« on: 09 April 2017, 09:52:31 AM »
What do people use for scenary for their games of Malifaux?

As the figures are taller than Heroic (and the standard Imperial measure - the William Killian) they may tend to dwarf doorways of most building ranges.

Sarissa did a separate "large scale" range of Old West buildings (they still exist but within the general Old West range).

I have one of them, which is usable for the Ortegas and other more "frontier" types. [Edit: actually I do not, it is a normal scale one - see next post]

But what do people use for more urban environments?

So here are some photographs of the shack, which highlights some of the issues.

First an overall shot (that is dust, it has sat on a shelf for a while, nice model, just waiting for a use to prompt it back into the production queue.

Next the standard scaling shot.

As you can see, the head height and the door are fine.

Malifaux Guild Guard and Perdita (the cameraman is diving for cover).

The doorway does look rather low compared to these figures.

Interior shot.

And this shows the problem, Santiago (the tallest and largest figure in the Ortega starter set) will have serious difficulty getting through that door.

I don't play Malifaux but have you taken a look at Plastcraft Games' Designed for Malifaux range:
http://plastcraftgames.com/en/11-malifaux
http://plastcraftgames.com/en/8-colored-malifaux (these come pre-coloured)

In addition, WorldWorksGames does their Terraclip range with "Streets of Malifaux", "Buildings of Malifaux" and "Sewers of Malifaux" sets which, judging by the names, should at least be in scale:
http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/index.php?view=catalog&cat_id=1&system_id=2

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Thanks.

I had seen the Plastcraft range but not the Terraclips.

Has anyone used these?

TerraClips are out of print. They're not going to be easily or cheaply gotten.

With that said, I have about five sets of the first run, and LOVE them.

TT Combat Scenics do some nice nice "brownstone" apartments that would be good for the Downtown setting in Malifaux, and even a few ruined/dilapidated sets of similar buildings.

Although size-wise the new Malifaux plastics are rather tall, I don't think they look bad against the scenery you showed. TTCS have Malifaux models in some their model photos that give some idea of scale.

Also, I have a few sets of Sewers of Malifaux Terraclips. It's quite a faff to build anything and then take it apart again afterwards, and I think some homemade stuff would be both cheaper and better.

Here is a TTCombat Streets of Venice building, which has suitable sized doorways.

At least you don't have Terrainlinx -  >:(

I would be using maps for urban terrain, as I live in a quad unit and have no more space for terrain.

There is, however, the option of British O scale terrain; Smart Models, for example, have some items in O as downloads with a seperately-available laser-cut substrate.

Also, look at quarter-scale dollshouse kits.
NOT buying a 28mm WW2 army for the foreseeable. Deal with it.

I will look out for them.

There are US O scale kits out there as well, in plastic, resin, MDF and ply.

A the moment I am going for the TTCombat stuff, the Streets of Venice range - I am sure that parts of the city are from the first colonisation attempt and would resemble 15th -18th cemtury. I have some photographs of the Eleventh Doctor's Venice (Trogir in Croatia).
