Some Sci-Fi Terrain (Updated and Finished)
« on: 19 April 2017, 12:42:15 PM »
I've got back into sci-fi wargaming through Warpath Firefight and I've been inspired to make some terrain.

A local caraft shop is selling these wooden hexagons. They are about 8.5" across so they're fairly large. I thought they might make the basis for some unusual buildings/habitats. The walls are made from thick card.

They're not finished yet. I still need to do the windows & attach sections to the top of wall to create a walled patio area on the roof. I'll probably leave one side open to attach a ladder or stairs.

By the way, I'm going for a very clean 1970's sci-fi look. This will be a peaceful colony that has yet to experience the war.

This thing is some sort of reactor/generator thingy. It's made from a cheap hose fitting that I found in a hardware shop ($4.65) and some plastic garden pegs that I found across the isle for 50 cents. A lid from a tub of guacamole for a base, a bit of pant and and... Viola!

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

I finished off my buildings and added a few pieces of paved surface areas made from the same 3mm ply hexagons I used for the buildings. I'm happy with them in the clean "Star Trek" way that I was aiming for.

These pics are on a table that I set up for a game today. My thinking being that this is a new repair facility that's been set up in prep for repairs on a derelict communications array. The two sets of terrain look okay on the table together as long as there's some sort of reasoning.

I like that aesthetic. Seems like the recent sci-fi trend is to associate hexes with the slick 'Infinty' look, but I feel like you captured the 70s look really well.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.
