Space Riders minis
« on: December 07, 2015, 10:28:33 AM »
This thread should be a continuation of my RT bestiary and my Pisceans threads. In fact I could swear I had also shown some Astral Hounds and Carnivorous Sand Clams, but now I cannot find them :?

Anyway, I'm trying to recover my Bestiary for RT. I've begun to paint the Space Riders KS minis (Weee!). The first one is the Ambull. Delightful sculpt, seriously.

As it is a rock desert beast, I went for the brown approach. Dark brown as a base, shades with blue & green:

Then beiges for the fleshy parts. I thought of using more vibrating colours to add some touch, but this somehow felt more natural to me.

A rather bulky beast indded!

You can find it all here:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/12/ambull.html

So, this is the first of the batch. More to come!

Very cool! Mine arrived today and I hope to tackle it soon.

I like the naturalistic colour scheme.

Second beast of the batch, the Zoat:

Once again, lovely sculpt, pure RT. I've always seen these guys painted in bright green or red, I thought I could use another approach and tried this palette:

More animal like, less alien (well, apart from being a xenocentaur, you know what I mean). Along with his pal...

You can find it here:

Now let's see what comes next...

Back again, today with the Pisceans.

I just kept on the path I had already begun with the Finding Nemo nonsense :D

(Hard to see, but he has the proper face scars)

(I swapped weapons so it looked slightly different from the rest)

So, when I put them together with my other Pisceans, this is how they look:

(Yup, in case you didn't notice, this is my shameless inspiration lol):

You can find them here:

Now for more beasts!

Ambulls and zoats and fish, oh my!

Very well done. I especially like the muted scheme on the zoat.

Love those Piscean Warriors Suber - so colourful! I've been debating whether to go for uniform or varied skin patterns on mine. The variety really is eye-catching :)

Thank you all! I'm thinking of a scenario in which the Pisceans must roll dice at the beginning of each turn to see if they remember what were they supposed to do or if their goldfish memory make them forget about their mission and then that turn they must move randomly... :D

Today I'm bringing some Minotaurs. I already have two, but what if I got another three? That would be quite an imposing squad! So I had no choice, you know... ;D

I gave them a thought or two about colour. I feared that they all would look too similar, I didn't want them to look like clones of the same mini. But I felt I had some restrictions; I opted to paint them in brown and black, instead of stained patterns and the like. I wanted Mediterranean bulls (as it's the inspiration for the Minotaur, after all)...

But then, the armour. If the skin colour was so similar in all of them, I needed to do something about clothes and weapons. The previous ones were both clad in red armour. If I followed the scheme, they would indeed be clones. I then tried a slight change. The risk here was going too far, I couldn't paint each one in a different colour, I think that Minotaur Power Rangers isn't quite that a brilliant idea :P. I'll let you judge.

This one is just the same model than the others I previously owned. Y made a weapon swap and repositioned the head:

This is the cyber-mino!

Finally the big bull boss:

The whole squad then looks like this:

You can see them here:

http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/01/whats-your-star-sign-taurus.html

What can I do to provide plausible enemies? Contrary to everyone's suppositions, I'm not making Space Bullfighters. Sorry, that's not gonna happen. :D. But maybe some kind of Theseus Squad... But oh, then I'll need to build my own Labyrinth for the game... Hmmmm... ;)
