Release date for Halo Fleet Battles is 20th July. The cost is £80.00 :o - details

Sadly, you need to spend £100 to qualify for free p&p. Not sure how much shipping is, as their calculator doesn't seem to be working...

There is a lot of stuff in that box set though. So I could see the justification behind it being £80 (that and paying for royalties).

There is a lot, to be fair - although it seems to be multiple copies of a few types of ship, rather than lots of different ships

UNSC (32 models)
    1 Epoch-class Heavy Carrier
    4 Marathon-class Heavy Cruisers
    27 Paris-class Frigates

Covenant (17 models)
    1 ORS Class Heavy Cruiser
    2 CCS Class Battlecruisers
    14 SDV Heavy Corvettes

Now, they could be 27 different Frigates, but I suspect it'll be 27 copies of one Frigate.

However my main gripe with the price is that sometimes it seems as if we're all treated like frogs in water that's slowly being boiled. At £80 I'm really starting to blister  :-[

Yes, 27 Paris Class IS the same frigate.

Tbh this is one of the things I could only find at fault with a Halo spaceship game: There aren't many classes of spaceship featured in the games, and, to my knowledge, not many more featured in other fluff, such as comics and books etc.

So either this will be a very small product line, or Spartan will have to begin creating new ships, which could be risky.

I could be tempted by a 15mm halo ground game.

9 quid for Malta from SPartanGames, so UK and most of EU should be cheaper.
It works if you proceed to checkout and fill in the location details.
And they're offering a discount too.

They've already started. They have an agreement in place that they can design new ships, and they get approved by Microsoft's HALO people before production.

Except that this is a "bulky item" so it's not applicable for free postage.

Not sure if the box itself is expensive or cheap or (the most likely option) something in between. It has a fair number of ship minis at least and at a few people seem to be complaining that they are "too big" so maybe they aren't at the tiny end of the spectrum either. Also I have a feeling that space ship miniatures tend to be a bit more expensive than comparatively sized scifi infantry type minis. But that could be wrong.

Correct  re postage - the Spartan Direct order has a 15% discount for a week or so, and makes it more affordable in the long run (at least for long distance mail).
Spartan vessels tend to be on the large side, so I think the value is reasonable.

Review of Fleet Battles over at TGN

Lots of words, haven't read it yet.

Just watched B5's Severed Dreams again today. Still the episode that makes me want to do spaceship battles. 2nd ed of B5 Wars is up in my loft, pretty much untouched. One of these days  ;D

There is a Beast of War weekender which highlights the game?  Haven't watched it.
