Tibati, Cameroon (FAP) - A terrorist cell attempted an assassination of Governor Saihaj Singh yesterday in the Chasseur's Valley refugee camp just north of the village of Tibati.

Singh was meeting with EI Ambassador Fer'Ver Aus to tour the camp. The inhabitants of the camp fled from the fierce Battle of Meng River two weeks ago.

It is not clear whether the assassins were targeting Aus as well as Singh but both Aus and Singh were injured in the fighting.

The terrorists suffered heavy casualties in the battle. A Pan Oceana Army spokesperson said that eight of the terrorists had been injured or killed in the fighting. An unknown number withdrew from the scene of the attack, she said.

Singh was injured in the attack when he was hit by a grenade his office said. The Governor's LMD servant was able to fall on the grenade and prevent further injury to Singh by absorbing the blast itself.

Casualties were light among both the Pan Oceana forces and those of Ambassador Aus's bodyguard, the Governor's office said. While official government reports only acknowledge that three soldiers were wounded, witnesses on the ground tell a different story.
