M3 Grant (15mm, new printer)
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:28:49 AM »

The very first tank off my Mars Pro — my 1:100 (15mm) M3 Grant. Even at the lowest possible resolution for that printer, it produces a very nice, clean result. I might even be able to print some 15mm infantry that look like something more than vaguely humanoid blobs (assuming I can get around to modeling some).

I dragged out some old Battlefront decals this time, rather than painting the tactical markings on. They're neater, I guess, but I think I really prefer painting them.

That looks very sharp!

Is there a little bit of banding on the hull front?

Neat job.
When the technology becomes idiot proof and cheaper I might get into 3d printing.
Until then I will just admire what others do with it.

Yep. It's printed at the default resolution for the printer (0.05mm) because I wanted to see how it would perform at that level.

The banding can be minimized by orienting the model, but with the Grant there's always going to be a problem with the glacis because it's at two angles. The alternative would be to drop the layer height down low, but of course that means a corresponding increase in printing time.

I think its come out very well - the banding on the glacis is pretty subtle and only shows in the photo when you focus on the front of the tank.
