Here are the first of my painted conversions for my tramp steamer crew. The whole crew (about a dozen figures) will be converted from Copplestone figures (from his Back of Beyond and Gangster ranges.) You can see more at my blog.

Mate, this is a flipping great idea. I love what you've done so far, and I can't wait to see what comes next!!!
-
Hell yes, they are superb. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Painting and execution are sublime.
-
Those are excellent!
-
Wow! Super Nice! :-*
-
Very nice :-* :-*
-
Cool! I think I own most of the original minis but your conversions are just top notch! And really nice painting job as well!
-
I liked these in the greens but they are several steps better painted!
LB
-
Applause!
-
Ditto about conversion and painting.
-
I wish I owned them!
They are awesome! The minis look great and i love your paintjob.
Got really excited that this might be a new release thread though.
-
VERY WELL DONE! The Crew conjured up images of John Garfield & Edward G. Robinson in Sea Wolf; you just need Ida Lupino to complete the package.
-
These are not guys you'd like to meet in the alley behind a pub in a port are they?
These are definitely tough guys; a couple of them were converted from boxing/fighting poses :)
Got really excited that this might be a new release thread though.
Sorry 'bout that. Title modified.
...More pics coming in a few days :)
-
More pics (and a couple new crew members finished):

Just very very good. Inspiring.
-
Those are great. Love the swabber, especially.
-
Yep... :-*
Absolutely super!
-
Here's the last of them (at least until I can figure out some more conversions.)

These really are superb, Carmen :-*
-
Those are all fantastic. The bases really set off the figures and sell the conversions. Nice photo's too.
-
:-* Wonderfully made! Nice colors, clean painting and great conversions all around. I'm so envious....

It's getting better and better. What mini did you use for that conversion?
-
Wow! splendid paintjob there!
for the bases, why don't ou use some real balsa wood instead of sculpted planks? :)

I was just too danged impatient :) That, and the figures stick better to the greenstuff with the superglue I use (Games Workshop.) I also enjoy sculpting my own bases.

In Copplestone's gangsters range, he has the "Street Toughs" pack. The figure on the far left of this picture is one of the figures of that pack unconverted (and showing the figures I've converted him into):

-
They are simply amazing :-* :-* :-*
Great conversions.
-
Excellent conversions and painting! Impressive. Most impressive.
-
I love the rich, warm tones of the colours.
-
That's one motley crew you have there!
Excellent work, I tend to over look the potential of figures away from their original intention.
All my gangsters are, well, gangsters!
-
Know what I want?
To see them on ship! Can we? Can we? Can we?
You're right, I do need some ship shots. I almost forgot! Here you go :)

ok. That just pushed it over the top. :o :-* 8)
How could you forget the ship?! Look at all that detail. Wow.

That particular set is my favorite of all Copplestone sets. I have used them for two projects so far, a third on its way...

I think I will leave my wife, empty our accounts and run away with that boat, if she'll have me...
-
I love those asylum orderlies! I may have to purchase yet another copy of the Street Toughs :)
-

I'm going with you. That boat has even comic books. What more could one want? Okay, a pack of Street Toughs too.
-
EvilC, that is an absolutely wonderful crew and ship. I am shaking with envy ;)
You have inspired me to decide that once I eventually tire of Wars of the Roses (some time around Midsummer I feel), my long-delayed tramp steamer crew will be my next project.
Definitely.
And I shall be incorporating a few of these Copplestone figures too.
Brilliant. Thank you.

Good news. Good times.

Absolutely beautiful - and I love it that we can say that about bits of lead, plastic, wood, paint, etc. It means it's art!
Speaking of art.... Really, this is wonderful stuff - and Hammers, love both uses of the street toughs. It's true, they're beautiful minis, and by chance I'm using them for something other than their intended purpose for one of the LPL rounds as well (well, two or three of the minis anyway). There's just something about them!
-
That rust bucket of a boat looks like it's going to fall apart at any minute. :o
Very nice. :-*
-
Unless I'm mistaken that's the ship that features in the latest Dallimore/Foundry book! Which is perfect because I would like to take the opportunity to say that your ship has been one of several sources of inspiration for me :)
-

You are not mistaken; that is the very ship :)
I've had her for a few years and only now got to giving her a crew (as well as furnishing the crew quarters.)
There's still work to do on her: I want to make a couple lifeboats/launches to put on the top deck, and I need to finish the captain's quarters.
-
Evilcartoonist.
I've got a stack of Heroquest rats. No self-respecting rust bucket should be without a few. Want some sent over?
I've got a few rats myself (not Heroquest), so no thank you, but I much appreciate the offer :)
-
First visit to this thread: jaw dropping content!
-
Wow. Off boat they were great but on board they really shine. What a fantastic ship. I don't know if I have the nerve to try conversions of those toughs but you and the captain sure make it look worthwhile.
-
There's something about Copplestone figs that make them a great base for conversion... seems a bit of a silly statement, but I was particularly inspired by some KKBB to produce some Pulp era figs as well.
-
Okay, so the thread may be getting a tad stale, but I really need to say the figures and ship are superb! :-*
-
Stale-shmale; Thanks for the compliment, Traveler!
I actually have a couple more crew to paint up yet. I'm just taking a break and doing some post-apoc figures for the game Qwik.
-
amazing
-
sweet baby jesus. that's lovely.
-
That, my friend, is a really sweet looking boat. :-* :-*
-
New to the forum, (OK, I've been lurking for a while without signing up, call me a voyeur if you have to ;)) but this type of project is what made me join.
Absolutely superb, steamer, minis, paintjobs, conversions, attention to detail, all simply stunning.
I may just have to steal the comics idea, I can just see copies of the local broadsheet littering the streets of my variation of Mordheim!
Thanks for the inspiration! (The whole project, of course, not the comics....)
-
Thanks again, all!
Mason, are you doing a pulp Mordheim?
-
Evilcartoonist: Not a Pulp version of Mordheim, no.
It is a variant using the Mordheim rules in the fictional Empire town of Krappefortte which has suffered the same kind of devastation.
I was going to 'borrow' your idea as I think discarded newspapers, in the form of a broadsheet, littering the streets would be a nice touch.
We already have a variant of the Town Cryer, called the Krappefortte Gazette, produced by myself on an irregular basis.
Miniature versions of this strewn across the streets would look pretty atmosheric methinks.
Thanks again for the idea!
-
Coolio :)
-
These are superb! The conversions are immaculate and the ship is dynamite! Great stuff, keep 'em comin'!
-
Just a tiny update: I've ordered Reaper's new Jungle Lord pack. The Jungle Lord himself will become another figure to add to my "Conan" collection, but the chimp will become my tramp steamer's new mascot. I'll post him in this thread when he is finished.
Here's a link tot the pack: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/previews/latest/50237#detail/50237_g_1

Lovely work truely inspiring.

Truly outstanding. I'm really impressed with these, it's heartbreaking I don't game pulp when I see a thread like this.

I totally agree.
Makes me wish I did Pulp, too.
I WILL eventually.
When I see threads like this on this forum it makes me wish I did EVERYTHING!
Brilliant!
-
Very, very nice. I've been looking for these type of figures.
-
I think my favourite thing about it -- and there's a lot to like -- is that it's called the "Mary Ellen Carter".
-

You have your fellow Lead heads to thank for that; A while back, I put up a poll to decide the name of the ship, and that was the winner. I was hoping for something a bit more pulpish, but I stuck to my guns and let the people's decision win.
Hmm, maybe it's time to work on her a bit more. Still have the captain's quarters to furnish....
-
This is absolutely one of my favourite threads on the forum. I love all the rich and warm colours of your miniatures, and the boat, but that goes without saying I would dare to say. Its like Hammers sailors and habour seedy habitants, they also are very nice and sort of stir an interest, from I do not know where. Even though I did grow up in a habour eviroment, with my relatives being sailors and fishermen, might be that :D
-
:)very nice.
-
Just saw this thread. In addition to the the high praise for your figures, I must say that as a proper Canadian, I love your boat's name. :-* :-* :-*
-
Have just discovered this thread (and, I'm ashamed to admit the whole Pulp section...why? I've no idea, but I now realise most of my games should be in here! Yargh, five years on the wrong forum!) and this is some of the very best work I've ever seems - superb! :-*
