Full of character :-* :-*

Very nice! !!
(Didn't the vikinger stay at home during the winter... and warred during the summer? ?)
Hi folks,
after a long time i finally managed to continue my dark ages projects.
This miniature is the brandnew viking warlord by StrongholdTerrain and was part of the special-deal of the german SAGA rulebook.
Cheers,
Daniel

Lovely stuff. Well worth waiting for!
Many thanks guys!
Meanwhile i needed some alternation on my dark ages workbench so i ordered the irish starter army by GB.
Four hearthguards made the start:

Brings those (very nice!) oldies from GB to life.
I actually think the older (original style) Gripping Beast figures look a lot better than the sometimes rather clunky looking 'new' generation of GB figures. The older figures all had those distinctive 'natural' poses, and reasonable proportions (for 28mm metal wargames figures). Too many of the more recent ranges of figures suffer from weirdly over-animated poses and extreme 'munchkin-ness' for my tastes. Give me the old stuff over the new any day.
I'm assuming that the shields are hand painted?
Gorgeous!
:-*
And still WIP, you say.... :o
I really like that photo! 8)
Thank you guys!
Thats so motivating :-*
Then a question. What size are those cavalry bases you used for your knights? I still cannot choose between round bases and the shape of yours. I guess it must depend a bit on the size of the horse as well, as LOTR stuff fits quite nicely on round bases, while other bigger 30mm horses do not, unless one prefers to have them quite distant one from the other when massed together.
.... are an artist of 28mm proportions :)

I'm always using metal paints. With a anti-shine finishing by army painter.Daniel, the chain mail on your wonderful Hearthguards, metallic or fifty shades of grey?
???
Really beautiful. That skull is scratch built?Yes it is :)
Looks wonderful Daniel.
I was very tempted to buy a couple of those Stronghold Dark Ages buildings when I was at the Tactica a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately, they would not have fitted in my hand baggage on the aeroplane ::)
I'm also slightly sceptical about the teddy bear fur... Yours looks very good. But I've seen a few examples where it doesn't look quite so good...
But this is certainly going to provide a lovely setting for your figures :)
Your artistic skills are amazing! I don't know how I missed this thread earlier. Going back to the photos of the Irish, how the heck do you do the chest hair? It really looks good. I'm afraid that all of my "hairy" barbarians are man-scaped. I would love a few tips on getting that effect...

Great painting on the shieldmaiden - the face is fantastic. It is a wonderful figure too, I must get me one of them.
I don't like him - I love him!
Thanks again guys!
Just add a little bit of brown or dark grey in your basic flesh tone, mix it with water and paint VERY thin layers on the chest. After a couple of steps you will get the right effect.
UPDATE
I just painted the new norse shield maiden miniature by Stronghold Terrain. Lovely figure what was much fun to paint!
Hope you like her! :)

Daniel

Excellent Daniel. Is that the LAM wagon? I have that model. You have inspired me to look it out and paint it :-*
Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the miniatures :)
Thank you guys! :)
UPDATE 20th of September
The next picture shows a little escort of northmen. It's a wild combination of GB vikings, barrels and cart from Stronghold Terrain and the oxen from Pegasus. Hope you like it! :)
Cheers,
Daniel

It's a wild combination of GB vikings
Beautiful. It's like a thousand-year-old photograph.tyrionthehalfman is totally right, the miniatures are from the GB civilians range.
I don't recognize those two hooded men and couldn't find them in the GB range. Could anyone please direct me to them? Thanks.
That is really anoyingly good!
Lovely use of the mini's from the former pics..... :-* :-* :-*
Is that the GB Trading Vessel?
I believe it is the plastic revell Viking ship
Indeed you do need to cut it down as it has the full hull to go on a display stand but it does look really nice painted up.
Dear Darrel,
Here is a guide which I did for Wargames Factory Vikings, five years ago, which includes waterlining the revel ship.

Mick
I have seen someone who placed his ship in level sand and then spray primed it. And cut away the not primed area.
Stunning :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*Stronghold terrain, they have a lot of Not-Vikings-Miniatures: http://stronghold-terrain.de/index.php/dark-age/saga-collectibles-miniatures.html
where is the figure from?
