I normally try to wait until I have a nice wad of stuff to show before posting project threads (which is why I don't think I have any!), but I'm going to try and change that and post from the outset, so here's to growing as a hobbyist and tapping into the LAF pool of communal motivation.
This project will be largely based on Gamma World, a game I've never played, but I love the background in the books, it's very 'free'. My strategy so far is just to paint whatever I feel like at the time, with a background so open ended and odd I hope my interest will be held.
Here are some assorted desperadoes, peasants and a monk which suggest lots of narratives to me. C&C welcome!

Very nice! I like you're painting style. :o
Looking forward to seeing what you do next. :)
-
Cool conversions. Is that rat a conversion to?
-
Indeed. Your style of painting is very.......pleasureable ;-) and i like your approach to rules, gaming and background. Thanks for sharing. 8)

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

The rat's from Megaminis, I'm not sure who has the line now, but I know there's a list of the new owners of their lines on the website. There's a whole range of ganger rats on there! Athropomorphised animals is an aspect of Gamma World that I'll be pursuing with as much gusto as my funds allow.

I like the style of those, very smooth 8) 8)
I think the Perry priest is my favourite :D
cheers

Looks like the start of a very interesting collection. Nice pallet of colours too.
-
Love it! MORE!
-
Man i love the Cluckers line of minis. Great for Gamma World.
Grimm
-
They look brill! :-* :-*
I could see them making a good gang for fighting Judge Dredd!
-
Very nice figure and cool painting job.
I don't know the gamma universe but your figures make me imagine a lot of funny adventures...
I like the chiken one :D
-
Well done! The bottle caps would make for fun bases, not just something to hold while painting. :)
-
These are all great love the crossbow conversions!
-
Oh the days of Gamma World I used to play 1st edition long ago. Wonderful cast of characters.
-
Nice job. I've never seen a Gothrat looking so good! Another mega mini line I wish I'd purchased when they available.
-
These are exceptional! Your rat and the Clucker are spot on for look and feel for Gamma World & Mutant Future. I forget who produces the Cluckers, but IIRC these were products of a recent kickstarter? I think the Rabbits were part of that line as well. Please remind me the name if you could be so kind?
I am gathering a handful of animal-mutant minis for an "After The Bomb" RPG campaign I'm hoping run with my children next year. I was exactly my eldest child's age when I started playing Gamma World first addition, so this would be a sort of turnabout life experience for me. The first three figures I have to get started is Reaper's Last Armadillion, Impact Miniatures Ozzie Platypus, and Reaper's 'Kulan' Snake Rogue. Like you've shown here I'm planning to have some humans mixed in with muties, to serve as the antagonists.
Please keep up the good work and let's see more Gonzo mutants!
-
Haha a chicken! Is it scared in fire fights? lol
Very nice start, and I like your idea of an open ended background to let you paint whatever you like.
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm cobbling together a few bits of scenery, then I'll base and varnish these and try and post some more attractive photos!

Donkus, they're available from Interloper miniatures, and the rabbits too, of which I have a few :). I'm certainly hgoing to have to get the Last Armadillion!

I like these a lot. Makes me want to run After the Bomb with miniatures, all gluing guns and crude armour to toy cars and scouring the net for mutant pig figures.
No. No no no no no.
Maybe.
-
Very nice indeed! I have been slowly adding to my collection of post apocalypse figures for Mutants and Death Ray Guns. Inspiring stuff, and nicely converted!

Funny thing you should say that. My first "Road Hogs" Truck is underway.

I have been tinkering, but have been quite embarrassed about the lack of progress, hopefully I will finish off the widows and orphans on my workbench soon!

The Gama World chickens are awesome! Who makes them?

The Gama World chickens are awesome! Who makes them?
I'd like to know as well.
Just heard on NPR last night that the fast-growing, meat-heavy chickens of today are a product of WW2 era engineered breeding. Who knows what kind of Chicken a dystopian future could bring about? :D

Quite disappointed that no-one's gone to the Monkfish well yet...
-
Love your stuff, right up my alley, I started out with Gamma World and have always loved its
Bizarre take on POstApoc.
Have you tried ' mutants and death ray guns' from Ganesha games ?
It has a very Gamma world feel for tabletop gaming
Regards
Jim

:o
Brilliant idea backed up with some wonderful miniature selection.
8) 8)
I love the paintjobs on all of them.
:-* :-*
You are a bad man, sir.
Making me think of other options for those minis.
>:D
;)
-
Loving them so much! :-*
-
Looking great so far. The bars on the windows are a nice touch, keeps out the little mutants :)
-
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. A small development; I'm aiming to create a more-or-less 'medieval' village which will basically represent the global average tech level for my formulation of this world. Pots and dishes for street furniture. These were satisfying and fiddly in equal measure so I'd love to be able to copy them somehow.

They look really cool, I wouldn't mind a little information on what you used :)
-
Has someone been raiding doll's house shops? Those look quite useful, especially as filling out locations with bits of tat like that really brings the to life. :D
-

Thank you,as for how they're made, I start with a bead or a 'stack' of styrene tubing, you could use anything with a circular section I suppose. You can see a couple of the white styrene stacks in the photo. Add a rim made of solder or other wire (solder is great because it is slightly malleable), as a rim, then add putty to form the proper shape of the pot. Spinning the pot on a cocktail stick whilst smoothing the putty in a similar way to an actual pot on the wheel worked well.
-
Very nice. The detail you bring with 1:48 hand spun pottery is superb! :-* :-* :-*
Now I need to try my hand at spinning pottery /bottles....
Cheers
Matt.
-
Interesting technique, it certainly works :)
-
This whole thread is brilliant! I played Gamma World in the first 3 editions and later played the palladium TMNT/after the bomb stuff. We never had great minis to use. You have inspired me to buy some of the chickens. Well done pjs and terrain Sir!
-
Another lull, another revival. I feel this thread will be in and out of the grave more often than a zombie on the Simpsons. Most of what I've been up to has focused on creating the scenery and figures which may get used in most scenarios, poor villages and poorer villagers!
(http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a576/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/WW/20150531_161214_zpszdnen6gv.jpg) (http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/media/WW/20150531_161214_zpszdnen6gv.jpg.html)
A few peons peasants and plebs. I've been trying out some weathering with some cheapo chalk pastels. I'm quite happy with the results!
(http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a576/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/WW/20150531_161408_zpsdzmntjxm.jpg) (http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/media/WW/20150531_161408_zpsdzmntjxm.jpg.html)
These granaries are based on a few different real-world cultures. I hope they will be able to do treble or even quadruple duty in Africa, Mars, Old West (perhaps not).
(http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a576/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/WW/20150531_160841_zpsiodt7o3m.jpg) (http://s1284.photobucket.com/user/Shattered-Dreams-Parkway/media/WW/20150531_160841_zpsiodt7o3m.jpg.html)
Some bread ovens, two were about as easy as one to make. Perhaps I'll be able to convince myself to get a bit weirder now...
-
Loving the street furniture. The granaries and ovens are especially nice touches.
-
This project is coming along really well, mate.
Love all the little 'extras' that you have added.
Those pots are the dogs...
:-* :-*
That middle fella on the roof....a conversion?
Very nice either way.

That's a great update, I love the villagers and the terrain.
-
This is some amazing stuff!
-
The black chalk weathering 'soot' looks perfect! Your structures have got so much texture and depth to them :-* :-* :-*
A georgeous project!
They could also work for tatooine ;) ...
Cheers
Matt
-
Wow! What a great thread.
A nice change of pace from the typical Post Apoc projects.
-
Oh they look Ace!
-
Fantastic additions and the Perry figures work really well 8) 8) 8)
cheers

-
Brilliant - now all you need are forty or so bandits and you can have a magnificent gamma 7 scenario ;)
Seriously - VERY nice, and the pots are grand -as are all the models. 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
Nice update! ! :o
-
Ama-schwing! :-*
-
WOW :o :o
Cannot believe I have missed this tread till now, lovely stuff. I two have a fondness for the Gamma World background, but must not start anymore projects, but have definitely banked this in the ideas folder. ;)
-
Thank you everyone, it means a lot coming from some modellers/painters whose work I admire (even though I know you're just being nice ;))!
And yes, some bandits are on the way.
-
That middle fella on the roof....a conversion?
Missed this; Perry sudan body (I need some more of these, great piece) perry mercenary arms/gun, GW zombie legs, GW beastman head with a warlord hat and paperclip horns. Too much information? ::)

That is a fair few parts, mate.

A great concept taken to a wonderful finish.

This thread is marvellous. It's got a kind of fringe world sci-fi feel which is really intriguing.
Where's the villager with the spade from? I love the model :)
