Austro-Hungarians Hecht Grau
« on: 18 July 2017, 11:42:07 PM »
Am interested in expanding my Central Powers forces with some Austro-Hungarians I bought from Brigade Games (very nice figures they are, too).  Am thinking about doing them in the early war uniform - Hecht Grau (pike grey) vice the later Feld Grau (too much like the Germans to provide variety - and shortages were such that both types could be used right up until the end of the war).  I'm a bit stumped though on what constitutes Hecht Grau.  Some pictures make it seem a blue gray (like Horizon Bleu ?), and some make it look like a light gray.  Any suggestions on how to achieve the correct color ?

Thanks Huevans.  I sort of thought that would be the case.  I guess I can use the same paint as for French troops (pretty close to Luftwaffe troops of WW 2).

Austrian "Hecht Grau" is often confused by the term "Pike Gray" referring to the weapon, the pike, and thus a dull metal gray color. Actually it refers to the pike fish whose appearance is more of a strong blue gray. During the Napoleonic wars it was even more blue than it became in later years, but folks still paint Austrian jagers in light gray.

The colors in the links is a good representation for WWI.
