15mm English foot men at arms c.1513 - advice sought
« on: 31 October 2020, 09:07:11 PM »
I am looking at getting hold of some figures to be dismounted men-at-arms/gentry for my early Henrician army, but not sure what figures to use. No one (at least no-one making figures at the 15mm-to-eye scale) seems to do anything specifically tailored to this, so I have been looking at Wars of the Roses figures.

I am working on the idea that many noblemen and their retinues would still be in late-medieval gear at this point. I know that the armour known as Almain rivet was growing in popularity in England, but was largely imported, so I figured the men at arms might still be in older-styles. I have a load of Khurasan's 'Yeomen of the Guard' in the new style Almain rivet, but want a unit of more motley arms, armour and livery.

Anyway, perhaps someone knows if these figures look right for the job?
They're by Donnington.

Any other suggestions welcome, in case I've missed some!
My armies:
- Henry VIII's army (WIP) 15mm
- Ancient Germans (28mm)
- Ancient Belgae (Gauls with German allies) (28mm)
- Massilian Greeks (Greeks and Gallic mercenaries/subjects) (28mm)
- A few EI Romans (28mm)
- Handful of WW2 British (15mm)
- A load of old 1993-1999ish Warhammer Orcs and Goblins

Check out QRF's dismounted Gendarmes pack in their Tudor range.  There's a fair bit of variety there.

Thanks,
Yes I have seen that range and have thought about buying some for a while (the variety of poses is a real strength), but from what I've seen they will come up too small compared to some of my other models.

Too be honest your problem would be that they are too large.  The archers and bills would not easily mix with Khurasan in my view.  The four Gendarmes and four standard bearers would be OK though.  I'm basing this on the Khurasan figures I have none of which are from their Tudor range.

That’s interesting, in that case, perhaps I’ll get a handful of QRF stuff to try them out, as I definitely think their Border horse and Demilancers are the closest fit to what I want in the horse area.
