FIW Canadian Militia and first ranger stuff
« on: 17 August 2009, 11:07:00 AM »
I've added a painting guide for Canadian Militia:

and the first rough concept sketches for rangers (new feature):

Hope they're of interest.  :)

Looking good! It seems from the sketches that the rangers could be used as light infantry also, no?

They could indeed Aaron, although I'll also be doing light infantry specifically, but they could be mixed in either way.

Very nice painting guide!

I had a question about upcoming releases.  I see that you are doing ranger sketches... does that mean you will be doing rangers next?  Or will the Hurons be released next?  I was hoping that you would continue to release things that other companies have ignored for this period thus far such as light infantry, provincial units, heck even nice regulars (especially French regulars), and some other indian groups that have never been done, like St. Francis indians etc.

Thus far I have been very happy with my purchases of Mohawks and the
French Militia.  Strong work!

Thanks for the kind words Darkoath  8).

Hurons will be next, I have a few greens to finish for 3 packs (+ to make up the master mould I'll have to finish more of the other stuff I have under way).

As I tend to work on about 10 figures at a time, starting initial stage stuff as others near completion, so I can keep stuff moving, I have also under way (some just started) some rangers, first LI figure, first couple of civilians and my first Campagnies Franches chap, dollies for regulars and one NA of a hitherto ignored tribe I know you'd like ;). The order these will be released is still pretty vague, and, indeed, they may be overtaken by others.

Everything above you mentioned is in our greater scheme. However, as we've started out with one tribe for each side (by the time the Huron are released) and the Canadian militia, we thought that it would be logical for skirmish purposes to get some rangers out before too long. Also, I must confess, that as the subjects we've gone for so far are well beloved of die hard F&IW fans, they are rather obscure to newcomers to the period, so I thought maybe getting some rangers out (who everyone has heard of) may be a good move to get attention, and support development of the rest of the range.

So, the gist is, yes mate, we do intend to continue to release more of the subjects others have tended not to, but occasionally intersperse them with releases of our own figures of more well known subjects to support our efforts in covering the whole period in some depth.

Hope that rambling response makes some sense  lol
