Some 28mm Canadian Militia
« on: September 05, 2025, 06:11:19 PM »

Hi everyone! I'm running the "Skirmish at Jumonville Glen" at the local history museum this Sunday. I decided I need some reinforcements for the French side in case I get way more players than I expect. So, dug into the unpainted lead pile and found these guys, but not 100% sure which manufacturer they are from. Are they Foundry 28mm?

Anyway, since Canadian Militia seemed to wear a white shirt, I did my usual variety of white-ish tones, in both a tan and gray variety. I've seen pics with both blue and red caps, so I mixed those, too. It had been a long time since I painted French & Indian War figures. I had forgotten how much equipment they have festooned upon them, and about all the details (like hair ribbons, ties for the gaiters, and so on).

I'm really happy with how they turned out, though. They look like they've been in the woods and not turned out on the parade ground. My favorite touch is the beadwork on the standing figures' shot bags. That said, I'm pretty glad that I have plenty of F&I War stuff painted already, and unlikely to need more. At most, one more small batch of British troops would be enough.

I'll be using my Song of Drums and Tomahawks rules, so I'm really looking forward to running this again. It's been awhile!

I'll do another post on the game next week...

Looking good!

I think I might have those figures too, but couldn't say who made them — I've got so many mixed in with the collection now to get maximum posed variety.

Thank you, Cat and Bill! It was interesting looking at my first ones I painted and comparing them to the most recent. I like my flocking more now, and I think I do eyes better. However, there might be more intricate detail on the earlier figures in the beadwork. Hmm...  :D

Mike, the bases can have a lot to do with the overall look. The guys in the club kid me because I treat each base as a vignette.... sometimes spending far more time on bases than any reasonable person would. That said, your figures are really nicely done.
