Old miniatures ID? Wood elves?
« on: 23 March 2022, 04:22:06 PM »
Hi guys,
I've just bought a lot with some old grenadier and 1 ad&d Ral Parta figure. I can't identify 2 of them: I think they're both wood elves. The first kneeling and the second with a cape and pulling out a scroll from a case. Under the first I read 1992 and something else... under the second nothing...
Can someone please help me?
Thank you very much!
Davide

You are surely right for the first: now I read "Meier".

I think they are Grenadier Fantasy Warrior minis, messenger and tracker. I think they are still available from Mirliton.

Hi,
I don't think Grenadier, even if the sculpt is very similar.
All Grenadier models I saw have "GRENADIER@1992 AB001(example product code),
here we have MEIER@1992 (for sure) °88° (quite probably).

Strange. As I write this, Noble Knight has one copy of Mirliton Fantasy "Wood Elf Messenger" blister in stock. They list code MIRWE021, the blister says WE021.
https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2147577826/Wood-Elf-Messenger

However...
  • I haven't been able to locate that mini in any of my old Grenadier catalogues.
  • Despite browsing the current Mirliton site and a few archived copies, apparently their Wood Elf codes on the site never went past 019 or 020.
  • When you check the Lost Minis info page for Fantasy Warriors in its Stratelibri / Nemo Miniatures phase (1996-2003), the page says "No unique figures are believed to exist. Refer to the earlier Grenadier or later Mirliton ranges where linked."
  • Then again, if you check some range sub-pages from the Mirliton phase of Fantasy Warriors (2003-), for example Dwarfs, it says "It is largely a re-brand of the old lines from Grenadier Models. Those that aren't are likely unreleased models in the Grenadier ranges (or ones we haven't located yet)."
Meanwhile, the Wood Elf blister looks real. (Save a copy of the pic if you wish. It may disappear if sold.) Where did that model come from? Why isn't it available on the Mirliton site? That's a proper mystery. ???

Very very interesting :o Thank you!
Oop minis? Furthermore under other WE models you can read "GRENADIER...". Here nothing.

If you want to follow really faint traces... Archived copies of Stratelibri/Nemo site and a fan site (some tricky frame navigation required, many image files not available any more) list under "Elfi dei boschi" or "Sileni" a blister "NM413 Comandi: Espl.+ Messag.+ 3 Generali". That might stand for Esploratore + Messaggero + Generali. That could mean that already Stratelibri managed to find a messenger figure from...somewhere and pack it with more common Grenadier characters. Then Mirliton re-packed it as a single mini, until they didn't. Maybe.

Hey, I just wanted to dump the archive links somewhere for future reference. And sometimes I love a good mystery. lol

I think you solved the mistery, Sherlock  ;)
Probably the so called Tracker is the esploratore (explorer) of NM413.
