Stony banked stream, step by step.
« on: 19 September 2021, 05:41:14 PM »
Hi guys, just posted a step by step guide on how I made my stony banked, rippled stream. I think it came out well and the water surface is pretty damn fine, if I say so myself.

Looking forward to the link coming too.

Pretty soon I'll be doing something similar for the Pocantico River in Sleepy Hollow.

Nice tutorial and I love the ripple effect you’ve achieved. I’d expect to find it’s artificial  angularity frustrating and aesthetically offensive but you’ve done such a fine job on the finish it outshines these issues easily for me (I realise it is game appropriate). Thank you for sharing.

 Great tutorial

For those of you who find the angularity a bit too much - for games like TtS and Rommel which are grid based, you don’t have to have square terrain. There is enough flexibility in the grid system that as long as its clear what terrain is in a square, or for rivers which boarder they are on it all works. So having a slight curve to the river sections would work fine. And the same with the bends, they can be a bit more relaxed.

Yes, that link's working fine, thank you.

The results are very nice, but as emulsion paint comes in room-painting sized cans, this may just be a good medium to use after you've been painting a room.

Dulux sells colour to order paint down to 250 ml tins (about the size of a coffee mug), they cost less than £5 each - something of a loss leader for them I bet. I think they call them match pots, or tester pots.

I buy them all the time for painting terrain, basing, etc. because it's as cheap as paint gets, and you can get any colour you like. Want a colour the same as your shirt, just wear the shirt to the shop so they can scan it and make paint to match: brilliant resource.

Cool, I like the technique you used - simple, but very effective.
