For musical instruments I'd go for horns (maybe rams' horns?). Many others are mentioned in Daniel 3:5:
that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music...

Rams horns sound great.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale at Newline.
I am however helping a mate of mine put together his own army from personal digital sculpts. So watch this space as they say!

I suppose I should ask you guys, as interested parties, what else might you expect from a a brand new Midianite range?

Rams horns sound great.

Very loud too, they blasted down the walls of Jericho!

Rams horns seem appropriate for the nomadic nature of the Midianites, but since they are also massive looters, they could potentially have any exotic instrument from the era that they pillaged from poorer-defended towns. Also, in the story of Joseph, as I have already mentioned, the Midianites are depicted as traders, rather than raiders, who make a good living from the Egyptian slave market (as well as spices) so it's possible they could have any of the instruments from Egypt at their disposal as well.

I plan to paint up a Midianite raiding band for my own Biblical project, but intend to use Essex Miniatures 'pre-Islamic Arabs' from their Biblical range:

I'm a big fan of these miniatures.

Agreed no standards on a raid.

Actually, although this isn't exactly historical, a good example of raiders bringing standards on a village-pillage is this scene from Conan the Barbarian:

Now imagine the above scene, but with camel-riders in the desert!
