Following on from the recently-posted generals and artillery, I've been working on the British cavalry...

Cheers!  Yes, it does raise eyebrows when someone wanders in at work when I'm mid photo-shoot...  :D

Lovely cavalry there.  But then again, not at all unexpected with your handiwork...

For some reason, the shot with the Village in the background reminds me of the scene in Barry Lyndon when Barry's regiment is parading before being shipped off to war.  Well, only with cavalry not infantry, but you know......

Indeed they do.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

JF,

How do you enjoy painting SYW cavalry as opposed to other periods? I'm building a significant pair of SYW armies but no cavalry - FIW setting.

The reason I ask is that for some reason cavalry of this period appeals to me less than say Napoleonic and I think the reason is that they all look essentially like mounted infantry. I suppose I'm observing that the uniforms aren't distinctive from the foot in most cases.

I reckon you must love painting tricorns but does painting cavalry for the period drag at all? I have a tonne of WSS cavalry to paint one day so I'm staring down that barrel.

To paraphrase Sir Mix-a-Lot, "I like big cuffs and I cannot lie!"

One of the attractions for me is the practicality; it's FAR easier to find figures that are 'close enough' in terms of cut and details than it is for Napoleonics, with all those different and distinct styles of lapels, headgear, epaulettes, etc (I still get it wrong though, as the article points out!).

I find that they're slightly easier to paint than Napoleonics, ESPECIALLY the French.  There's very little edging to lapels, etc and almost none of that very fine piping you see on so many Napoleonic uniforms.  Tricorn lace-edging is a massive ball-ache though (thankfully absent from Prussian and Austrian heavies), as is the large proportion of hussars fielded by the Prussians and Austrians (I'm just about to paint what will hopefully be my last-ever Prussian hussar regiment)... Ok, apart from 'Green' Kleist's frei-husaren... oh and the black hussars... oh and...
