Setting the East Ablaze: which supplement?
« on: 31 August 2023, 10:11:29 PM »
All this talk of Weird WW1 at the club has naturally got me thinking about my BOB Warlord Chinese.

I have the 2nd Edition of StEA coming. Which of the supplements would best suit my Warlord Chinese project which Includes The Baron and some Tibetan Cavalry?

Many thanks

I found the rest of the project. Siberian Guard, more Whites, Mongolians, the Mad Baron himself (plus a couple of oddities (and a bizarre railway steam vehicle

They look good.  With my head on one side.  ;)

I don't think any of the books have the Chinese in much.  Red Dawn Rises covers much of Hopkirk's Setting the East Ablaze but not the Mad Baron bits.  There was a Volume II planned I believe but I don't think it was ever published.  The main rulebook has army guidelines for the Mad Baron's forces, Chinese, Bolsheviks, Tibetans etc.

I think Steve is about to publish v3 of the rules but I don't know if Vol II is planned as well.  I'm sure he'll be along soon to give you something more useful than my idle conjecture though.  :D

Ha ha - yes, I've not mastered the art of rotating photographs.

These are my "spares" I have a bunch of Chinese Warlord figures painted.

That makes sense, I thought I'd read that there was going to be a 2nd supplement covering the Mad Bad; I didn't think Dunsterforce was it.

Thanks

That's much easier!  The Dunsterforce book is great but I don't think there are any Chinese in it.

Bob Giglio is working on a new supplement for Warlord China. He did the excellent Dunsterforce supplement so I am expecting great things. Here is the link but it is the thread that is currently under this one.

There's also one on The Baron currently 'resting' whilst we get StEA, '3rd and Final' edition finished off

Yep, none of the current scenario books have Chinese actions or those involving the Mad Baron. But, as Steve said, look for the STEA rules 3rd edition, which btw will also have a few scenarios inside. :-)

With regard to Warlord China, that is still coming along, though slowly. Just finished one scenario for the early part of the Great Wolf Rebellion (bandits under Bai Lang vs. Chinese regular army units), and will be playtesting that next weekend. Working on a second Great Wolf Rebellion scenario for the latter part, which would involve the bandit forces fighting Muslim troops and Chinese, as they are being forced back (since by that time the tide, and citizens, were turning against them for their looting and rape).

Regards,
Bob
