Building power armoured troopers
« on: 20 September 2023, 07:09:17 PM »
I started a project to build a small unit of 5 power armoured troopers for use in our games of Sharpe Power Armour (our SciFi version of toofatlardies Chain of Command and Sharp Practice rules mix).

My opponent regularly fields the former Mongoose Starship Troopers Grizzly miniatures and I wanted something with a similar look. Finally opted for the Puppetswar Heavy Prime Strikers.

The plan is to have interchangable magnetized right weapon arms and a mix of plain and close combat left arms.

No problem with the right arms, but Puppetswar sent me only close combat right arms instead of the left arms I ordered.

Eventually I gave up trying to get them to send the correct arms and cut up the close combat right arms to turn them into left arms with the help of some greenstuff.

Hopefully these maimed arms can be further obscured by painting them.

Thanks!

I've built close in weapons system from bits to take down those incoming missiles.

Primed the lot and tried out different configurations.

It is looking good.  I would love to see it against models.

Brilliant stuff sir! I look forward to seeing them in action (and would be interested in your rules). Are you simply treating the suits like AFVs in CoC? Thank you for keeping me inspired whilst my own hobby productivity has flatlined  lol

Great execution!  :-*

Thanks guys!

Here's a quick comparison shot next to a crooked-dice ghostbusters figure:

Are you simply treating the suits like AFVs in CoC?

Not quite. More powerful suits get more actions ranging from 4 actions for heavy power suits to 2 actions for a unit of infantry (more armour = less unit members, less armour = more unit members). Since we use sharpe practice activation, flags (or more aptly AI tokens) can be used to enhance actions or activate units. More powerful suits may also react to missiles fired at them using a flag/AI token.
My opponent is actually the main rules writer/assembler in this case. I have to talk to him about sharing the rules.

It's been a while but I finally painted the power armour troopers.

Now all they need is a game!
