Since we have a new edition, and the means new terrain rules, I decided to make some pieces for a Crowhaven AoS board. Something grim and spooky in a muted way. Is New England Gothic a thing? The first two bits I have here is a ruined wall, and a stretch of roads flanked by ominous woods. I have to say, cutting and gluing individual bricks is far less tedious than engraving a brick impression with a pen is.

There are those who seek knowledge to be known by others; that is Vanity.

There are those who seek knowledge in order to serve; that is Love.”

They both look good already, I'm curious to see how it continues!

New England Gothic is, in fact, a thing.

Because I don't have enough projects kicking around, I'm making a Full Tilt board (using Nigel's original rules, of course). Experimenting with possibly mounting rails under the base of the board you can seat your knights on and physically push your knights up the tilt for a bit of added fun.

Got a lot of progress in today. The rail idea turned out to be a bust, which is just fine, because it means I'm pivoting in a more "playable diorama" direction. Inspiration is mainly from Eric'shobbyworkshop and Dave Andrews' venerable diorama. Why reinvent the wheel? Mine takes from both but should, I hope, stand out as it's own piece, worthy of inclusion in the realm of Full Tilt boards.

Here's the box itself (don't worry, I'm going to clean up those wonky joints)

And shots of the progress achieved on the box/stands creation.

Steady progress. Turns out, making stands for a joust takes exactly 1 pack of 150 coffee stir sticks (next we'll have to determine how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop).

Big strides made in the last day. As you can see, the body of the board is now complete. It needs a varnishing spray but I need the weather to clear up before I can do that. After this all that I'll need is to finish painting the bleachers and tilt, base the bottom, get the pavilions I've acquired built, and we'll be ready to joust!

In an homage to Dave Andrew's famous Golden Daemon-winning diorama, I did a manuscript background, because it just look amazing, and did writing around the base of the board. I cannot find anywhere what the writing on his diorama says, so I opted to just write the Chivalric Code of Bretonnia in a suitably readable but nice script.

A final note before I go full-bore into the end-stages of this project: does anyone know if another dedicated full tilt board has been made since the 90s? I cannot find one anywhere on the internet. It'd be nifty if this is a sort of "Stillmania resurrection project" in that regard.

Here we are! It took about a week, and a lot of experimentation, but my Full Tilt board is fully playable! It contains wonderful amenities like sockets to put score flags for each round, reproduction pavilions from White dwarf thanks to my wonderful friend and his cricut, and the code chivalric around the rim in case your opponent forgets what honor is and starts getting gamey. I considered putting miniature versions of the jousting ploys in each player's corner, but my friends argued (rightly, I think) that the piece as a whole looks better as a playable diorama than an all-in-one-game board. It still needs some details, like a more complete court and crowd of spectators. For now, the Second Songs are at practice whil the Marshal observes. Some shattered lances and shields wouldn't go amiss either, but for now I am very pleased with it.

Hopefully, somewhere in Merry Olde England, Nigel Stillman is proud.
