Thai artillery
« on: June 08, 2025, 05:35:15 AM »
These I finished aeons ago out but held off photographing them out of a desire to complete their tows. But somehow I could never quite work up the mojo to crank out the horse teams. This may soon change now that I have identified sources for lorries and tractors.

The Krupp 75s and Bofors 105mm and 150mm are metals from Lancer Miniatures and Shellhole Scenics; the remaining 75mm guns are 3d prints from Matte Publishing & Hobby, a Bangkok-based outfit. Crew figures all from Elhiem.

Scale is glorious 20mm for those unfamiliar with the brands named.

Great work! And great photography.

They look very WWI at first glance. I have to admit I had no idea Thai forces fought in WWII.

Thank you for the compliment! It helps of course that I've invested in a trio of LED panels.

The Thais had the distinction of fighting just about everyone but the Dutch and Portuguese in Southeast Asia, though you'd get a better idea from the blurb for this upcoming tome: https://www.helion.co.uk/military-history-books/for-a-greater-realm-volume-1-the-royal-thai-army-at-war-1940-1945.php

Great link - I had no knowledge of that theatre in WWII.

I think it's not just the lighting, the buildings and terrain add a great level of set dressing too.

The population in Thailand is 63 million people. It is twice the size of Wyoming. It's chief exports are textiles, footwear, and rice. Each year approximately 13,000 people are killed in car accidents in Thailand. The climate in Thailand is...

Also, there is NO Long John Silver’s.

This is by far the most exotic army I’ve seen, and a really fantastic job on them 👍

Are you thinking of doing the short French-Thai War?

Those guns are lovely. The buildings turned out really well too.

Very nice figures and scenery there, Veroo. I had no idea that Thailand had changed its name as early as 1932 - I had to go and look it up to see when it stopped being Siam (I was under the mistaken impression it was more recent, post WW2 at least). Given the time period, you could maybe also use these for the civil wars in 1933-4 as well?
