We Can Be Heroes 2 - Your opinion?
« on: 15 March 2010, 08:02:13 PM »
Hi.

I'm new to pulp gaming (been a massed fantasy battles fan for 20+ years), but I really think Pulp in the next step in the right direction for fun.

I'm trying to "start easy", as in my country (Mexico) not all my friends can read english very well, so I usually end up translating the rules for them.

So I was checking different rules reviews (.45, Savage World, Pulp Action, etc.) but I think

WE CAN BE HEROES 2

http://www.tfpgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12

may be what I need to lure my friends to play Pulp.

And the PDF costs just about USD$15.00, so seems like a good point to start.

Has anyone of you tried these set of rules?

What do you think of them?

Thank you.

I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

I have not seen these rule , but I thank you for the post because it is a rules system I was unfamiliar with.

I use .45 Adventures and suplements for game mechanics and "Where Heroes Dare", the West End Games - Indiana Jones sourse material (Out of Print), Gurps - Cliffhangers, and Peter Schweighoffer's excellent "Pulp Egypt" and 'Heroes of Rura-Tonga" from Griffon Publishing Studio for adventure ideas.

I haven't seen We Can Be Heroes 2, but I wasn't impressed with the first edition - it didn't seem to have been well playtested, or proof-read at all.  It also had a strong WW2 emphasis, rather then being as general as the marketing suggested.  Of course, some or all of this may have been fixed with the second edition.
Back from the dead, almost.

Thanks for the replys pals.

.45 Adventures sounds good and even has a FREE SPANISH intro version, so looks good, but several game mechanics seem like a little too hassle for introducing my gaming group.

Ganesha Games are fun and all (I own SoBaH, SoWaW, SoGaD, and a couple others, but just quite don't "feel" like the way I want to go with my "Pulp" gaming.

I will check the systems Major Payne suggested, but what really attracted me from WCBH2 was precisely the apparent simplicity of the system and the "comic book like" style they have in the download pages they offer as a teaser.

So, no one has played it?

Best wishes.

I actually helped out and playtested with WCBH 1 and playtested 2 for Gordon. I real like the way WCBH 1 worked and played and 2 built on that. But as I wrote Flying Lead I may be a bit biased ... FL plays quite differently to SOBH to be honest ... give me a PM and I will give you a sample.

You should also take a look at Astounding Tales...  Neat set of rules there...

For a very definite Pulp set of rules Two Hour Wargames 'Larger than Life' is excellent, esp if playing by oneself.
