6mm Sci-fi rules...
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:45:08 PM »
Right then, advice sought...

Tried FWC - hated it because of the command system - ugh
Dirtside - some good elements but movement system and pointage is pretty much SNAFU.

What other rulesets are there for 6mm sci-fi?

Musnt have a command system similar to FWC as that would be a total non-starter... other than that, no real demands/want-to-haves.

FWC - Fog of War at its best  :D

An old list is available at http://6mm-minis.blogspot.com/2007/11/mini-wargaming-6mm-10mm-sci-fi-rules.html

A couple are on the Free Wargames site http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk/index.php?page=sci-fi but I've not tried them.

You may want to consider Epic - strip out the fluff and its a good game at its heart.
Do not forget Ogre Miniatures - limited in the number of units but plays fine without the big bruisers.

But saying all of that I would go for Command Horizon myself.

What about NetEpic. Its still a great game. Just don't use all the evil empire BS in it.

Also Fistful of TOWs. Its a modern set, but just make it SciFi.

We tried FWC for a campaign and a few other games at the clun, but found it hard to come to a definitive conclusion on what they meant in many circumstances. i found there were concepts i liked, but not overall.

We are using Iron Cow for the next campaign. While i am not totally sold on IC it is a useful basic system which i am jazzing up with some command cards dribbed from my own WIP system for 6mm.

I am curious to try Command Horizon at some time. They seem to be quite elegant, although i dont like the (divisional level?) concept. I understand that people have succesfully customized them for 1:1 games.

There are also others out there-OHMU (Oversized Heavy Mechanized Unit) being one that doesnt seem to get a mention anymore.  Pireme's "Hammers Slammers-The Crucible" also features rules for 6mm.

Jim Webster's "HELLFIRE" is a good game - very generic. Not sure if it's still about though.
