But seriously, these look great. I like the green/yellow scheme (although I normally dislike that combo). The bases really have character to them.

I think it looks better than other examples, because of the slightly muted colours used - especially the yellow has no 'pure' yellow (like GW Sunburst Yellow, for instance), but is more 'mustardy'/brownish, and the green is not highlighted up by adding yellow, but white.

And I must compliment the brushwork - that picture especially shows a very simple, and probably fast, layering technique (I don't think there are more than 3 layers anywhere?), that gives a really striking effect, even on close-ups, and more so when looking at the unit.

I'd love to be able to duplicate that technique (I was almost there about 1½ year ago, but then I decided that real life was demanding me to take a break from the hobby, so now I have to re-learn my fast-painting).
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Here is a link to the final Kings of War rules and lists; someone took a scan of the documents and posted them on Dakka Dakka. Hope this helps!

Ah yes, that's a possibility, too... I then will have some surplus figures (and it's not very likely that I'll find some more of the same type to fill out another unit - but still, a nice idea, shall have to consider that), though, but it will be easier to use other GW minis, as they often come in multiples of 4.

For sure! Since you plan to skirmish with the figs as well, a few extra won't go amiss I'm sure :) I look forward to seeing your first battle report :)

Thanks

The painting and conversions are very nice, I'm not a big fan of the multiple bases as this regiment has the footprint and fighting prowess of 20 foot troops while there are only sixteen models of which four are wounded or dying.

I totally go by the "no need to have a perfect one-to-one figure representation" school of thought; I was doing little (lame) diorama space saving bases like this for years now. I also feel that 20mm by 20mm bases perfectly ranked up looks terribly too orderly for my tastes... Perhaps the Romans and Macedonians managed that sorta rank-and-file look before fighting broke out, but once the crap hit the fan, not even they would be so organized!

Ranked up Warhammer figures represent "historically incorrect uniformity" I think :) But I don't chagrin the standard rank and file, it's cool if it's your thing! But for Kings of War, it doesn't matter since it's all about the footprint. It's perfect for me since you can play with ranked up figs, or with diorama-style bases!

So, if you think 17 figs representing 20 is a problem, don't look at my handgunner regiment ;)

Thanks for the kind words! It's not all that easy to do, as the three colour layering scheme is pretty easy :) There are a couple colours with more than three layers (red, skin), but for the most part it's just base colour, middle tone, and final tone.

Thanks again,
n.
