You do realise Flames of War is a 15mm game? So you shouldn't be looking at 28mm miniatures but 15mm ones.

if you like to make custom editing on the miniatures you can look for the Bolt Action Plastic ranges: quite cheap, a LOT of accessories and details and also  a lot of poses!!

good luck! ;)

Jeff from Die Waffenkammer produces some of the finest quality 1/56 (28mm) WW2 vehicles in the market. Highly recommended:

Scale up all the ranges at it should work for 28mm too - I did a similar thing with Rapid Fire many moons ago - scaled it down to 6mm. It's only a set of rules after all.

I'd second the plastic range from Warlord - especially since you're probably used to the 40K plastics.

I like Artizan Designs as they really have a lot of character and are first class in terms painter friendly and quality of the moulds.

I would say collect 28mm by all means but vehicle wise do Tamiya 1/48 or if you can find them Corgi diecasts (1/50 scale). I bought a 1/56 scale jeep and I was totally disappointed. 28mm 'heroic' figures just look totally out of scale with 1/56 jeep. In reality you can have 4 very comfortably in a jeep-even 8 is doable -compare an Artizan or plastic Bolt Action figure by a 1/56 and is just not happening. Frog do a plaggy jeep in 1/48 for around a fiver, Tamiya tanks range from £15 to £28.

On the otherhand you could do 20mm and then its Pegasus Waffen SS, AB Figures for Brits, Millicast, Italieri for vehicles etc etc etc....

Puke IMHO  (well, I don't like them, sorry)

I would recommend the plastic commandos from warlord for imperial guard

anyway, if You go with the greatcoats, the warlord germans could be a nice fit
