Recent Game: This Very Ground
« on: 16 May 2011, 07:37:17 PM »
Recently got back from what has become a roughly annual visit to a long-standing gaming partner.  Four solid days of gaming in all this time. Here are a few pix that may be of interest.

We spent some time playing FIW skirmish, using the variety of miniatures I've been painting for the period over the last year. Many of these I have posted here in the past; Galloping Major, Conquest, Crusader, Brigade Games, and Old Glory all side by side on the same table.  We used This Very Ground with around 50 men per side.  This ruleset delivered a great game in our estimation, we both particular liked the "smoke" mechanism used to manage each unit's volume of fire.

As dawn broke, the combatants moved from their camps down into the densely wooded valley of the Upper Hockascrotum River.

Both forces moved into contact as advance parties traded sporadic fire near a ford in the river near the center of the board.

As the rest of the forces moved up this led to a protracted exchange of musket fire along the river as each force tried to take and hold some rough ground to obtain a maneuver advantage on the flanks.

Ultimately the British right flank gave way, and the French took control of the ford, center.
