Short comment on play in recent IHMN game
« on: July 14, 2013, 02:57:07 PM »
We played a couple nights ago, with Scotland Yard facing off against the Black Dragon Tong.

The two sides came to grips rather promptly with both sides coming towards each other around various buildings and obstacles at the run. The Black Dragons quickly got the upper hand in the melee.

It was interesting how that changed when the Scotland Yard player realized (it was his first game) that he could shoot one-handed weapons while fighting. Despite the Speed modifier, that genuinely seemed to make a big difference in the results.

I thought this was an interesting nuance in the rules that bore mentioning.

We were both wondering when people would notice that rule (3.3.4 Shooting in a Fight).
After all this is why so many leaders can take a Pistol and Sabre combination. It certainly makes a British Rifle Company Captain a whole other sort of beast.

We have only tried this with Ra Cultist vs Black Dragon Tong.

On the first turn the cultist is at about -10 to hit, due to both moving and the speed of most Tong members.
On the second turn - well the cultist was nearly always dead by this stage - but at if he was in the fight was still at -2 or -3 so needing a 9 or 10.

It will be interesting to try this with better gun men.

Plenty of nuance to IHMN, and the Shootin' in a Fight is a good'un. Adds terrific value to the very affordable cost of the Speed characteristic.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Oh we picked up on that pretty quick,a great way to balance out chaps with mediocre fight value vs your uber fighter.  if you team up your cultists  they stand a better chance of shooting their opponent in  the second round of combat.

Oh  and I played with a British rifle company captain at the club for the first time (Lt Col  Johnson actually)  and he was truly scary.
