Nice one NIck!  :-*

Perhaps it was due to us only fielding three units per side to really try and understand the rules mechanics.

That sounds like it was a sensible plan!

My advice for better understanding Sharp Practice:

1.  First, think Activations, Orders and Actions.

2.  Instead of Big Man "Initiative", use "Orders". So a Big Man Level III can give three Orders per his Activation.

3.  When a Big Man uses an Order to Activate a unit, that unit gets 2 Actions. With those 2 Actions, they may do a variety of things. Some take 1 Action, some take 2 Actions. That unit may not be Activated again this turn even though the BM may still have more Orders to give.

4.  Get rid of the term "Action Dice." A unit does not get 2 Action "Dice" -- they get 2 Actions.

5.  Sometimes, especially in the early stages of a game, a BM will have more Orders than he can use.

Hope this helps. I find players more readily understand this terminology.

By no means does this infer that I am dissatisfied with SP. Just the opposite, I am a big fan and I use various TFL rules for all the periods I game.

Say, is that Lt. Robert E. Lee over there on the left?  And that guy with the stubble, is that U.S. Grant in his younger years?

Very nice.
