Threshold beaten, what's happening?

Big monsters never seem to work well for me, so I usually keep things cheap and just kit out a whack of Cultists.  I've done more damage using a mook with a bowie knife and a shotgun than I've ever managed with, uhh, anything else really.  But dice don't work correctly in my presence, and are even weirder when Mike is on the other side of the table, so my experience should be no means considered to be anything resembling normal.
