My flesh and shade progress - ooh and tartan!
« on: 30 January 2012, 10:16:33 PM »
It's been a couple of weeks since I first asked for help on this board in order to improve my painting, boy has it helped!!!

This was before I used tips offered by LAF'ers....looks like the face was put on with a shovel.

This is after I used some flesh techniques you all were kind enough to share with me.
As you can see, it's still not great but I'm pleased with my progress.

.

As you can see, my flesh painting skills have improved due to the help I've recieved here but I've a long way to go so stay posted.

I searched out the tartan for the 92nd Highland regt and did what I could to recreate it, as a 28mm beginner, I'm pretty pleased.

Cheers

Matt

Hi mate,

No link as such given to me; more a lot of tips from LAF put together.

However, that was my test figure so I'll happily post a tutorial of how I painted this figure.
Give me 24 hours and I'll post a 3 step tutorial using new figures, all credits are due to LAF members for painting tips.

Cheers

Matt

That's a fine miniature you painted there.

Love the tartan especially.  :-*

I really like the uniform on the first figure and the tartan is great as well.

Thanks for the compliments chaps.

Mr.J - as promised, here's a quick step how-to on the flesh. (it's a basic form of what I've learnt here and will try out more intricate methods next time).

1. fill in eyes white and dab whatever colour you want in the middle and paint all flesh with GW tanned flesh.
2. paint all raised parts of flesh with GW dwarf flesh, leaving tanned flesh showing in creases/wrinkles/lower brow and inner ear etc.
3. using GW elf flesh, paint only the highest points on the dwarf flesh (tip of chin/bridge of nose/ear lobes/cheekbones/lips etc)
4. Matt varnish (fortunately for some reason it appears to have given the face a weathered look).

That's it - simple, excluding drying time, it's about 90 seconds per figure.

If anyone can add further quick tip ideas, I'd be grateful.

Matt
