That was  my point exactly - people either don't know or don't care.

Though I think I figured it out - with Maelstrom Games now defunct, Mr. Lane has run out of funding to keep his Darklands line moving as there are no more funds to embezzle.  That is where Kickstarter comes in...  ;)

As for what the funds are being used for, I think I read it is being used to fulfill outstanding customer ord... er I mean it is supposed to be used to launch the rules to their new wargame and fund the production of more miniatures.  Pretty standard fare for up and running companies.  Antimatter games did the same for DeepWars, which I supported.

I just hope I don't have to say 'I told you so' to any of the supporters in the future if their shipment never arrives...

You should not compare AntiMatter to Maelstrom. We shipped out Kickstarter rewards on time, with some stretch rewards shipping as they are finished and went far into debt. We did not take people's money and not deliver anything in return. I'm not happy to have Antimatter in the same post as the word "embezzle". Our second Kickstarter helped us claw out of debt and make more miniatures, which people will also be receiving.

Hi Eric,

No offense meant, I am a big, big fan of your product.  I was simply comparing the purpose of Antimatter's kickstarters - to fund more product/models, and also the attempt to relaunch the ShadowSea rules (which will hopefully see a resurgence sometime in the future  ;)).  Mierce has stated similar goals for their kickstarter campaign - to launch rules and sculpt more models.  However that is where the similarities between the companies end.  Your keeping to schedules and your punctuality in communicating progress and setbacks to customers has been exemplary.  So I will keep supporting and promoting your product as long as its available  :D

Perhaps my tongue-in-cheek remarks need to be better worded.  Sorry for any misunderstanding - I was trying to respond to the post stating there is no clear goal of what the funds are going towards.  Sometimes I am too sarcastic for my own good.

Cheers!

If it helps I didn't interpret Timbor's post as comparing Antimatter with Maelstrom in any way. I can see why you wouldn't want to be though! The whole incident has been a stain on the hobby.

looks interesting, but if most of the miniatures are already being produced, whats the funding actually going towards. also £60 for 11 miniatures thats a bit steep :o

After reading the first entry of this topic, i checked the KS website and got really interested and even contemplated doing a modest pledge. But after reading all the other entries i have strong doubts although i have never heard of this story before. Need to think about this one.

TBH, I think your odds of receiving the miniatures from the pledge are high.

For most of us, it is an ethical issue we have with the director and his business ethics and his apparent theft from loyal clients.  For us to buy his product and support him would amount to hypocrisy.  That 'sticky' little issue is the only thing keeping me from lending my blessing to the venture, as the miniatures are very high quality from what I can tell.  A bit too detailed for me to bother with as painting those details would drive me crazy, but nonetheless...

I think some of the sculpts are very good, other less so, but ....

For most of us, it is an ethical issue

That, in spades. I can't understand how anyone would want to have any dealings with such unscrupulous person.

I was pledging, but with the dubious history combined with high price I decided it probably wasn't worth it. $nz160 for 5 trolls, however awesome isn't that great a deal, I'll instead by about fifty reaper bones trolls for that price, well maybe ten and have a wad of cash left over.

I wont be going anywhere near anything he does.
EVER!

Too many people have been stung in the past by this fella.
It leaves a sour taste just thinking that he is able to do what he has done and still go about launching another line.

AND it states this on the Kickstarter:

"One thing that may concern some people is that Mierce Miniatures is somehow tainted by association with the former owners of our miniatures range, Maelstrom Games. We can assure you that this should not be so. Mierce Miniatures is a completely separate legal entity, existing from March 2012, and purchased the BaneLegions range entirely legally from Maelstrom Games in May of 2012 (rebranding 90% of it as Darklands) - long before Maelstrom Games' troubles began. We are unaffected by any issues regarding Maelstrom Games whatsoever and this Kickstarter project will be fulfilled - as long as we reach our target, of course!

Remember, too, Kickstarter's own words: if you don't like a project, don't back it. There's no need to be a jerk!"

Make of THAT what you will!
