Beware of Mierce Miniatures scale variation
« on: December 14, 2015, 01:22:51 PM »
Hi folks,

Long story short: I took part in a Mierce Miniature Kickstarter, getting some human miniatures. It turns out some of them are much taller than others (whole units), depending enterely on the sculptor.

The short ones are supposed to be Norses, so the height variation it's not intended:

The small ones are GW-LotR size and all of them are very slim (DarkSword style).

When I've contacted with them, the answer has been " we are happy with the sizes of both the Teulu and the Holumenn". Good for them, but I took part in another three Kickstarters and I am now wondering how many more pigmies I'm getting  >:(

Since that is the company founded by this criminal who robbed so many fellow gamers via Maelstrom online shop banckrupsy, I am not surprised by the arrogant answer you've got.

Mierce, Battlefront and Dust Studios are top 3 in my black list and I will never buy from them.

It doesn't look like the figures are outside of the range of normal  human variation by any stretch of the imagination.

I like a little variance to some of my armies and will buy from different manufacturers to get that look.

......... company founded by this criminal who robbed so many fellow gamers via Maelstrom online shop banckrupsy,...........

Exactly.
Know who you are dealing with when it comes to Kickstarter campaigns.
I am amazed that so many gamers have such short (or selective) memories when it comes to guys like this.

Hear, hear!

However, I'm sorry that doesn't help you Arthadan. At least they are the same scale as each other, and can therefore be used together. :?

+1 - Another reason to avoid anything touched by Rob Lane.

At least, to me, the variation appears within normal human range, so when put in a unit it should not be that visible.

it's no our fault, they wave shiny toys in front of us.

but this is good to know, I have been thinking of putting in a test order.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I've been speaking with them again and in the end we have reached an agreement. I can return any human miniature I'm not happy with and they'll give me credit in their shop to get monsters or something else so scale won't be an issue.

I'm happy with that solution.

No idea of the story behind Mierce Miniatures owner, good to know.

Here you are a scale comparative:

From left to right (the three clear gey resin ones are all Mierce):
- Mithril, Foundry, Bronze Age and red Box Games.

As you can see center guy is "normal" scale and proportions and look good with all the rest. Left guy looks like a wee boy, not a Norse warrior and right guy has the right height but slim limbs and small feet and hands 8would look good with DarkSword though).

Rough synopsis here. They even put a dodgy disclaimer in the MM KS page I remember, because throughout the campaign they were hounded by unhappy people who were basically robbed by Mr Lane previously.

I'm glad that you can send back/swap the models that you don't like. I would highly recommend using Recorded Delivery when you send them back though, just in case "they never get there".

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I am wondering how people are doing with Mierce these days?  Are the latest sculpts in better scale with each other?

There was a sale at my local games store and I stocked up on some fantastic looking monsters and a small assortment of people.  Then I ordered some more people from their website.

I did notice that some of the people-minis (not monsters) were extremely fine, like anorexic teenagers in 28mm scale.  Some of the minis were also huge, space marine true-scale heroic size.

The most interesting example is the wolf-shaman guy (whose name escapes me) compared to a big chaos-looking plate armored guy with a giant axe thrown back behind him (whose name escapes me, too).  The shaman comes up to the bottom ribs of the big guy.  The shaman could be an undernourished little old man and the big guy a 2 meter brute (I actually know guys that size).  They do not belong in the same unit but as individuals they're fine.

Personally, I love the sculpts and don't mind the difference in size, but a buyer should beware if s/he is unit-building.  There is no guarantee that they'll look like they came from the same inbred village.  ;-)

I bought the bog beast from them no problems, I think their prices are pretty high though, but the product is great quality

I still wouldn't buy anything from 'em, but that's just me.
