New Project started- French invasion of the Channel Islands
« on: 12 November 2016, 02:30:50 PM »
There I was all happy with my Zulu war/VSF project (which wasn't making much progress) when two weeks ago I took a sudden lurch into interwar pulp.
The triggering factor was finding some unpainted Over The Wire figures I have had for years but never knew what to use them for... when suddenly I had a moment of complete clarity and almost the whole project was there before me in my mind's eye.

The French Invasion of the Channel Islands (@ 1928)....

...which started over a disagreement over the Tomato export. Before the outbreak of hostilities a memorandum of understanding was hurriedly drawn up and signed by both nations forbidding the use of any weapon calibre larger than 37mm. This was due to fears of destruction of property, and the fact that nobody could afford the shells.

My intention is to use up lots of odd figures I have knocking about and many diecast cars and trucks that I have. It will be a quick mini-project which (like WW1) will be over by Christmas  :D
I have already painted up a unit of French Foreign Legion and started two units of British. Photos very soon

I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I like the sound of this! Like Michi, I look forward to seeing more.

Hi Michi thanks! I am doing small units of 6-8 men which I am finding is easier to find time to paint. I don't know what rules to use, but it doesn't really matter if it never gets to be played...

Thanks Mad Lord Snapcase!

If you are interested I can tell you what units I have planned :
British

2 units of Tommies, 1 of them in gas masks
Independent Company (slight conversions OTW figures)
Pankhurst Battalion  (female figures from Matchlock minis)
Marines in Wolsey helmets and blue uniforms (OTW conversions)
Sailors with a Redoubt pom-pom (1st Corps figures)
A Sikh MG unit

French

2 units of FFL in gasmasks  (straight OTW figures)
Groupe Franc  (conversions, various)
Zouaves (conversions of Dixon ACW)
Polois in horizon blue
Dragonportes in brown uniforms (these and the  blue troops I planned to be Scarab miniatures but I just got them today and they are too big to fit nicely)
FFL motorized MG unit (in diecast racing cars)

Just bought the Brigadier 38 rules. They were only £8 so it will give me something to read and keep my enthusiasm up. I have a day off work next tuesday to get lots of painting done.

There are also lots of good unit-specific books (sadly no FFL!) but this one may also be helpful?

I have exactly the same problem!   ;)

You´ll need piles of crates of tinned tomatoes for cover and to fight over! A dock, some lorries and you´re good to go!

Well, I have kind of wasted two whole weeks of my project time as far as painting goes.  After a good initial start I haven't painted a thing. But I have been reading a few rulesets and getting all the minis together I need.
I have 3 weeks left before Xmas so I plan to get all the figures painted and all the vehicles I currently have.  (cars, M/Cs and tankettes)
I have decided that the Brigadier 38 rules would work pretty good, and they will allow me a few more armoured vehicles than I originally planned on (3 tanks per side) so I will go with that. If the infantry are all finished on target, I will feel happy to buy the tanks AFTER Xmas.
