Question: Foundry Robin Hood figures
« on: May 18, 2015, 11:27:29 PM »
I just picked up six Wargames Foundry figures from their "Robin Hood" collection.  They came in individual plastic boxes and were numbered MS8 Robin Hood, MS9 Maid Marian, MS 10 Little John, MS11 Frier Tuck, MS12 Sheriff of Nottingham and MS13 Guy of Gasbourne.  The boxes are dated 2007.  I was wondering if this line of figures is still available (didn't see it on the Foundry website but I could have missed it) and what other figures were/are part of the collection?  Thanks.  Richard

Agreed I can't seem to find them on their website either however I did find similar miniatures on ebay see http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saxon-Robin-Hood-SAX016-28mm-Historical-Wargames-Figures-SAGA-Edric-the-Wild-/161354072777?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item259173c2c9

Those are neat figures but they are not the ones I have.  The ones I have are not only different sculpts but they came in their own individual hard plastic boxes/one figure per box... the kind of box that has clear plastic face and sides that slides off the hard plastic black and white backing.  It not a blister pack box; it can be opened and closed.  Thanks for sharing those with me.  Richard

Foundry did make some individual Robin Hood figures in traditional nonspecific medieval clothes, including two Robins: one of them was a replica of the statue of Robin Hood that stands outside Nottingham Castle.  You can see a couple of them, with sculptor info (John Pickford and Martin Buck) here:
http://theminiaturespage.com/news/840330/

They were horribly overpriced, I recall, so I didn't add them to my Robin Hood collection (from my second ever post to LAF: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=16306.0 ).

IIRC, the whole set fitted into one Foundry grid-shaped web page (one figure per box, max nine boxes one of which is "buy this collection"), so if there were more than the six you've got, there wouldn't be many more.
Back from the dead, almost.

Steve, thank you.  Those are the figures.  You are right about the price.  The sticker price on each figure box was $6, so $36 for the six of them.  Fortunately, they must have been gathering dust on the shelf of the hobby shop I found them in and the store owner sold them to me for half price.  Thanks again for the information.  Richard

It's a 2015 topic but as it's still kind of relevant, you can try looking here: :)

(Not cheap but they do exist.)

The standard and style of sculpting is consistent with that home of Foundry 'outcasts' (and, it would seem, outlaws), Casting Room Miniatures, but they also have an early Citadel Miniatures quality. Foundry has revived other old Citadel ranges, such as Vikings and Saxons, Feudals, and HYW, so maybe...

Their differing styles of base strongly suggest that the two Robins derive from different ranges.
