Home-made dice symbols
« on: 21 September 2013, 04:23:10 PM »
The topic came up a few months ago, and I've since managed to get off my backside and make my own Saga dice.

So for £6.00, I got six dice for each of the factions (most of the supplement factions reuse the symbols from the basic game, or the Scots' symbols from, IIRC, Northern Fury):

Nothing fancy - on another day I might have chosen to use different colours for each of the factions. The ink is pretty resistant to scratching. In fact, the only downside is that ink is water soluble, so don't handle them with wet hands. I will have to go over them with an inkjet fixative spray.

eM-4 are great for blank dice too

There is a 30th dice hidden in that photo...

Tremendous work! They look way better than the ones I made, as I only used the symbols printed on regular paper. Nice one!

They look very good - I've just ordered some of the paper to make some dice for BotS - I'll post my results when they're done.

Ditto, but I did pimp them up a bit afterwards. Wish I'd thought of doing transfers.

It's a shame about the price and availability of the SAGA dice (is that still an issue?), because it was a real sticking point for a lot of people, myself included.

Nice work everyone! Very professional.

For meself I think I'd copy Cubs' choice of dice. The recesses would salve a bit of paranoia about wear and tear.

I used those recessed dice (which come in a variety of colours) for my BotS dice. Worked well so far.

They're covered in woodglue and varnish as well!

I have to ask - BotS?

I varnished mine this morning too.  Better safe...

Your dice look great Cubs - I love the weathering you've done on them.

There was a chap on RPG.net ages back who had carved his own Saga dice and woodstained them to look like ivory.  Beautiful work.

I've done some for Chain of Command as well - I put the number and command on each face.  Two sets of six (the maximum you need for an elite force in the game), in two different text colours.

I reckon by the time I've made some Bolt Action dice and some Fudge/FATE dice for roleplaying (if I ever get that group together...), I'll have spent £20 and saved £80.

Got the production process down pat in MS Publisher too - it takes about 30 minutes to make a sheet for printing.  For a 16mm dice, I make 15mm squares and use those as a guide.  I tend to stick a text box over the top of the guide squares, then layer arrows and symbols on top of that.  Group the lot together and start copying and pasting.

I think they all look great.
Fantastic work folks. ;)
