Miniature for Secrets of the Third Reich Mr Smythe?
« on: 22 February 2014, 05:52:37 PM »
Can anyone suggest a mini to represent the Mr Smythe character, (Secrets of the Third Reich, from the Temple OOB - bowler hat, raincoat, glasses, umbrella & punch dagger - in the pic, I'm not saying it has to be identical, just somewhere in the ballpark) as I believe that the actual WestWind mini was a limited run thing.
                 Cheers, all help much appreciated.

Many Temple players have used Artizans Herr Tohdt figure from their Thrilling Tales range. Here's a link.

I think the West Wind Mr Smythe was a tournament exclusive. Keep checking ebay, that's how I managed to find mine.

Cheers, seen the Artizan offering, its good but not quite right (that mini always makes me think of 'coat-hanger gestapo officer from the first Indiana Jones movie). I think they do another one which is roughly similar in terms of hmmm...
Please keep the suggestions coming, many thanks.

How about the civilian version of Mr Mainwering in the Warlord Dad's Army box?

What about Ironclad Minis agent H or agent L?
Both have long coats and bowler hats

although carrying guns not umbrellas.

One of the old west Pinkertons looks a lot like your picture...

Many thanks all for some great suggestions. Sadly none of the original mini are to be found on evilbay (didn't pin my hopes on it, as it was a promotional item from a while ago) but you have provided me with a possible solution to this conundrum.
Amalric, your suggestion of the Artizan Mr Peregrine & Mo!'s of the Artizan Pinkertons gave me an idea - take the body from the central Pinkerton mini, remove the head (the tash he's sporting is a bit much) & the right arm (the one holding the Winchester/Henry or whatever it is). Then replace the head with that of Mr Peregrine. The right arm isn't a problem (bits box job) - there's even Mr P's umbrella (the punch dagger will have to be scratch built, but it's a simple enough shape for plasticard).
That said, I'll be purchasing one of the Herr Tohdt minis too, I'm afraid that the 'Gestapo officer & his scary folding coat-hanger will have to be added to the list (excellent suggestion FATROC).
Ok, I'm off now to sharpen my tools in anticipation of some mini surgery... nurse, the screens!

It was a tournament exclusive, but there was a PIC on West winds forum of a Mr Smythe coming out, but nothings moved on since empire of the dead came out, hopefully the sotr2 kick starter should get things moving again

SOTR II (Nice hard bound book with an Index I hope), and maybe if we''re lucky, they'll have a model for every listing in the book.

Really annoyed me that they made a special character from the book a promo item, not even an alternate sculpt, just the model full stop.

Anyway, I need to get around to painting the little beggar (nobody to play against, SoTR is on the backburner), but instead of a lookalike I went a different route, the young boy from the Westwind French Civilians set.

Very suitable for a Village of the Damned style creepy kid.
