Disney Pixar Cars vehicles (1:55) and 28mm heroic figures

Hi all,

After seeing a few nice repaints of the cars range, I thought I'd dip my toe and source some 2nd hand from evil bay for about $5 AUD each.

Do they work for you? If you've used them, please post a pic, I'd like more inspiration (aka stealing ideas).

Anyway here is a group shot.
Figures are Joe (a Hasslefree "Joe" on regular slotta base), and Landon Ricketts (a resin Black Scorpion 32mm tombstone cowboy on metal washer).





The vehicles, (supposedly 1:55), have a variety of sizes and shapes. The 'larger' ones will be fine unbased I think, but the smaller ones will need basing to bring them up to the right level. I was surprised how much variation there is between them all. I am also surprised at some of the distortions due to anthropomorphic features - the Porsche is particularly bad and unrealistic!


Id like to have one of the bond corgi toys in 1/43 for my build, but cannot justify spending $30 + on an early toy with all the weapons.

Warning, if you are buying 2nd hand, they will be play worn, and in all likelyhood the axels will be bent. Two of these have seen some ham fisted youth punish them into the carpet. With the result I will need to turn the Daytona/Police car into a wreck or pull it apart and bodge it together as a static model. They don't seem as sturdy as the matchbox cars of my youth (whose axels were fine, but wheels were sometimes chewed so they didn't turn)

I think most of them look just right although I agree some of them are a tad small, I'm surprised how small the van looks, is it the same one as used here:

Are you kidding? I can almost look over its roof when I stand beside the prototype. It´s less than 5metres long, therefore the relation to the American models is rather correct, I´d say.

Nah that's a different one. The VW is called Fillmore. It was used by someone in a LPL Round however.

They have the Michi seal of approval? Passable with some work?

It's just that matchbox /hot wheels are too small, as are the cheap dept stores range. These are in the ballpark at least. Otherwise it's expensive EDIT (1/48-1/43 63) scale model cars..

Yes, of course. Their size is quite right - if you don´t mind that their proportions are more cartoony than their prototype and some even have "mouths" rather than radiator grilles.

I prefer larger scale as 1/48 and 1/50 than 1/55... and even if 1/43 is recommended by some people, it's too large for me 

Zvezda makes 1/43 scale Cars plastic kits but they look smaller than 1/43 model cars

Having 'played' with Pixar cars a lot with my son, I did notice the sizes were a bit off, Fillmore especially.  The cars have been rereleased so you can buy new ones in the stores right now.  They have some really cool ones, especially the gremlin and some of the hot rods.

There was a Filmore McDonald's toy made of plastic.  I kept my son's old one, it is considerably larger.

I sold them as a lot and made a fortune a while back after my son stopped playing with them..  A real shame, I haunted those toy store and got him most of the rare ones.

I think they look great with the miniatures!

No I'm not and whilst I agree that the Type 2 is smaller than people realise, (sat in enough of  them over the last 16 years) again the splitscreen filmore is a characterised model and is too small (and not in scale).

I have some knowledge of aircooled vehicles but, end of the day it's the ops call to use whay he and her likes.
