In fact 6.41mm

ie a 6ft tall person (1828mm) reduced to 1/285th of real size would be 6.41mm high.

It is the "oversized 6mm" scale used by CinC and GHQ (and sometimes by Scotia) for microtanks.

The difference between true 6mm (1/300) and 1/285 is enough that the 2 are not like for like compatible. ie a German Tiger tank in 1/300 looks tiny in comparison to a 1/285 version of the same.

I'd be interested to learn where the idea of scale being based on a six footer is from. That's still taller than your average fella, after all.

Rounding to a convenient number?

I remember when  o_o   ::)   ;)  30 mm was "Humans" (defined as heroic 6 footers... Conan of Cimmeria mindset...) and (5' tall) Elves were 25 mm tall, Dwarf (4') at 20 mm, and I think (3') halflings as 15 mm figures... I blame Gygax from the old "Chainmail" gaming.)

Now I need to go check out the pages of my copy...  I think fantasy adventure Humans he suggested two scales (30 and 40 (?) mm tall humans for the basic sizes...)

Gracias,

Glenn

See thread on height I started, interesting stuff in some ways for miniatures modelling....
