Beginnings III - the first buildning (ever!)
« on: July 03, 2008, 11:27:04 PM »
Hello gentle folk.

I did it! :o :D
I built something!
I looks awful and about to fall apart any second...and I love it.
Its a very basic derrick, inspired by the Kriegspielers Baku game photos.

It is a bit of a rush job, because I got carried away and wanted to complete it.

I recognized it right away!

So kudos to youdos chum.

Nicely done. Well executed.

Do you plan to include it in some of your games? I certainly would.

Thanks for the nice words.  :D

Yup, this beauty is going to see some action.

I will use it partly for my Wild West set up somewhere in a fictional Texas c:a 1870 with bandidos, Texas rangers, gunslingers (The Wisecrack gang, the fastest shooters east of Tombstone) and cowboys. I hope to put together a general store and a saloon in the coming month.
It will also serve in the Back of Beyond setting I'm devising with chinese bandit gangs, warlords, russians, tibetans and brits... etc.

So very userful, and very rickety.  ;D
You might have noticed that the base is slightly warped, its because the model being made of thin plasticard is coated with several layers of white glue for stability. next time I'll use sturdier material.

Very nice, Colonel Drake Junior! ;)

It strikes a nice balance between cleanly built model and reproduction of a somehow clunky original.

Maybe you should consider applying a dark brown wash to emphasize the plank effect - if you do, better try it in a spot where you can easily paint over if it doesn´t look the part.

I like it.

A rush job eh?

I don't think mine would be that good if I took my time.

Well done.

Looks excellent.

My first thought was Alaska rather than Texas, but pretty useful wherever.

Might be tempted to try something similar here.

:D Thanks for all the positive feedback. It took about 8-10 hours to finish the thing after a day of studying how it could be done.

I will probably go over the base a couple of time to make the ground colour lighter.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that to see what happens.

Cheers

Very nice indeed.  Well done.  Straight off the Baku oilfields! I would put a dark wash and then highlight it a bit. Extant photos show these things to be predictably filthy and oily  :-*
