in general very classical - block and then drybrush and ink/wash - or the other way round, depending on the effect. lately I've gone into using glazing more frequently. I have acrylic glazing medium
but my output is not very copious - I had a push lately though  :D

I am a also big fan of drybrushing.
And I don't like layering at all

is that a comprehensive description?

Works for me mate  :)

I guess I do something similar. Interspersed with making coffee, rearranging my paints, rearranging my workspace, staring at models waiting to be painted, looking on the internet at how others painted similar models, making more coffee, etc etc.

oh, that....
well, once I've decided what to do, what slows me down is repainting. I am quite obsessed with spill-overs and overpainting boundaries between materials  ;)

I constantly end up accidentally painting parts I have already done with brush slips. Its frustrating to say the least.

I imagine this can be annoying especially with napoleonic uniforms  >:(
I have experienced an improvement in this department by simply keeping up the painting. Apparently experience is the key. Unsurprisingly actually... :?

Yeah I am pretty new to painting and have pretty shaky hands atm. I have gone one harder than Naps and gone for Samurai, not smart. I figure I will get better with time.

I was never into Napoleonics before joing LAF but the content here has made me want to try some in the future. Once I am done with what is already here.

I've only been painting 25/28mm figs for 16 or so years, so I'm no expert.
I do a two or three color layer method and find it pretty fast with good results.

Basics:
Spray with flat black primer 36 or so figures.
Paint hands and face with Burnt Umber Americana
Highlight with flesh shadow
Highlight again with half dark shadow and half light flesh
I don't paint eyes unless it is a command stand or a small number of figures.
Paint jacket with base color, highlight once or twice.
same for pants.
Paint pack, bags, water bottles straps two color method.
Highlight black, with dark grey, boots shako etc.
Finish with piping, buttons, sword knots, sword metal, plums etc.

Gloss coat, let dry: dull coat.
Base.

Some Prussians I painted, however the bases are not finished in these pics.

The 1 thing to do who ever your painting for is, take pictures...  Just in case you add more figures or get a commission from a long time come back for more so you an see what you did and paint similar.  Nothing worse that the 2 not matching.
