For a long time, I've been trying to find a figure I could convert into Chang for a Tintin League.

What I need is something of a tall order: A Chinese or Asian civilian in the right scale, in rather plain dress, who is smaller than Tintin but not by more than a couple of mm. For reference the Tintin figure every (myself included) is the Copplestone one which is 29mm to the top of his head (30mm, if you include his famous hair tuft).

I don't mind figures of different sizes and heights, but proportionality forces me to be picky in certain cases. Just as the Captain had to be taller than Tintin, so does Chang need to be shorter, or at least not higher than 29mm.

I've thought about some of the Copplestone Chinese, but they're actually larger and bulkier than Tintin by a very noticeable amount. Obelisk's Boxer Chinese civilian line (now discontinued anyway) were mostly in dressed rather obviously in the more elaborate 19th century clothes and most of the men in that line were plump shopkeepers anyway. I've looked at the 1/72 Red Box Chinese boxers (thinking I might go one scale down) and they seen terribly cheap-looking and also in pretty much unsuitable and ridiculous combat poses. The IHMN Tongs don't seem like they would work either. Tsuba's Japanese would actually be a perfect size with the right type of face, but they're all in very heavy kit and conversion would be a nightmare.

Foundry doesn't seen to have any boxer civilians. Does anyone know if they ever did in the past? I know it's a long shot, but maybe there's an OOP figure I could use.

I don't expect to find exactly what I'm looking for and I can convert within reason. Is there anything even remotely close to what I'm looking for?

I thought Foundry used to have some Chinese in their Old West range but can only see one now:

There were some ancient (Han?) Chinese with tools and wheelbarrow etc, but I can't find them either, although they were mentioned on an earlier thread:

One thought I've had is the desperation tactic of finding a really hood head to use and just sculpting one myself, but I'm not sure where I'd find a suitable head. It's also possible I might try a non-Asian figure and paint or convert it to suit.

The Han Civilians are done by Casting Room Miniatures which is a Foundry offshoot.

Have a look at the Pilp Miniatures range by Bob Murch. He has a fair few packs including Chinese civilians. You might find one there.

Do you mean Black Cat Miniatures or Black Cat Bases? (Black Cat Bases being completely unserviceable)

Well, actually I don't see any Chinese figures at all with either of them. Black Cat Miniatures seems to only be Napoleonics?

Doesn't look like it. I mean, in theory you can convert anything, but past a certain point you're just sculpting a new figure.

PARDULON: http://pardulon-models.com/de/resin-miniaturen/183/chinesische-zivilisten-iii

Add a male head to the woman in blue jacket (miniatures come in multipart resin, head is separate anyway)!

That's probably the best suggestion yet! Might even be able to just convert the clothes a bit on one of the men in shorts.

Great idea, Michi.
