I think that everyone who can paint miniatures can also sculpt or at least make some conversions. I'm not talented but I've spend a lot of time to learn how to sculpt something that looks more or less like human (or alien :)).
You can find a lot of sculpting tutorials. Maybe some Infinity miniatures can serve as a base to make some conversions.Try and dont give up :D

Appleseed! Love it and you really really need to do Briareos and a landmate. The redesign is EPIC. In the early 90s a set of 25mm minis of Deunan and Briareos was released but even in 25mm they seemed quite small, more closer to 20mm. Do it now for I demand it...... Please!
