1st Corps Holt Artillery Tractor
« on: 06 December 2015, 01:35:27 PM »
Cracking piece of kit, this. Must recommend it to anyone who needs to haul big guns about. No instructions with kit  :'(. Uprights that support canopy shortened a bit. Putty applied to edge of canopy to create rolled-up canvas sides. 8mph top speed not pulling. 3mph when hauling. 75 hp and 8 gallons a fuel per hour.  :D

Nice work Sir as always,
I'll confess a set of instructions would be useful for some of the range.(some of the new models will need them).I did take a couple of pictures of it in resin and white metal to help with placing until I can catch up with line Drawings.
Your right the supports are longer than most common version of the roof. For two reasons,it can be adjusted to cover most hight variations (I found so many variations all claiming to be the same Mark/model of vehicle)without the need additional parts. Also you can add the canvas rolls on the sides and still see the interior detail. Also the whole thing can be built without the roof without the need to fill any holes for roof supports. I think I mentioned this in the sneaky peak thread. If I did sorry for repeating myself.
I wish you post a few of the pictures from your blog as well its nice to see how you use it conjunction with other models in your collection. :)
Mark.

A couple of images of the completed towing rig... Holt, scratchbuilt towing limber and a HLBSCo 8" howitzer. Approx. 12 inches long end to end. Magnificent!  ;D

Spot on.
For me this is a build that sums up the Great War engineering in one go (Bits from different manufacturers married together by some homemade jiggery pokery ,into a useful piece of kit. )well worth the effort.
Little jealous as mine still needs tweaking before it's released (stealing my thunder  lol)
Still love it though :D
Mark.

Any news on when this is coming out?  :)

This militarized version of the Holt Tractor was built by Reo in 1917 as a 5 ton prime mover for artillery in WWI and can be seen at the Ropkey Armor Museum in Indiana. The Tractor has a 45 hp engine and Holt later evolved into Caterpillar.
