This is one of Reaper's plastic minis that I painted using Vallejo acrylics.
I first painted the whole thing with VMS
Oily Steel, and then added several washes of Vallejo Game Effects rust paints — they're called
Dry Rust (the dark brown) and
Rust (the orange). Before they cured completely, I gave the whole thing a brush down with an empty brush, which took the rust effects off the highlights. Or alternately, you can paint the rust effects on over a chocolate brown base coat, and then give the cured rust a dry-brush with
Gunmetal and then (very lightly)
Oily Steel.
You can slop the rust effects paint on straight from the bottle, but I find it gives better results if you apply it in several thinnish washes. The orange rust especially needs to be well thinned, or else it can be very dominant.
